because they can't claim the man as one of their own!

both are aggressive and it'll be a sensational war.

i'm glad the fight finally seems to be on. munroe going to japan. i wonder if this is why it took so long to make this fight and why he took 2 elims? to sort of put off this difficult away day...(or maybe he needed the extra elim fight, which gave him extra experience and saw munroe make serious improvements IMO).
Why would we want to claim such a mediocre fighter? Munroe has made no improvements whatsoever. He still does exactly the same thing in every fight. Nishioka will school him.

cordoba is nothing special, and dunne was atleast 4,5 rounds down IMO, he did well to win but he wasn't a true world champion! theyre were two wba champions at super bantamweight at the time! as soon as he was put in with any punchers he got sparked out :OhYes:

We've been through this several times, the Maludrottu fight was never a final eliminator and Munroe wouldn't have deserved his shot off the back of that fight imo, for two reasons (1) Maludrottu isn't a good enough standard for a final elim , (2) I and many others felt he lost.
However Rendall did get the decision that night and went in with a dangerous fighter in Terrazas, wore him down and finally has now deserved to get his chance.

I do hope Rendall pulls off the upset, the fact he had a rivalry(well kind of) with Dunne and that his manager is a bit of a tool at times isn't his fault. Munroe seems a good down to earth lad who's made the most of what he's got and I'd like to see the forum behind him. Unfortunately I can only foresee a Nishioka win but you can always hope.

You're giving out about the Irish disliking Munroe. However you don't seen to like Dunne ( using comments like "being put to sleep" is a bit fvcking ignorant i'd say). A bit ironic I'd say :OhYes:

Clearly not. Dunne only lost to punchers, his weakness was his chin which he couldn't do anything about. Munroe lost at domestic level and should have lost to Simone Maludrottu. Dunne is quite clearly the better of the two despite his chin. Dunne showed that he can hang with world class boxers like Cordoba, when Nishioka schools the binman you'll see how far from world level he actually is.

He has a win over Caballero and many thought he was robbed against Poonsawat but if you need to tell yourself he was nothing special in order to discredit Dunne you go right ahead. If that's what you call nothing special, what would you call Munroe?

I really hope Rendall can pull this off, he seems like a top bloke and he's been on a great run, I read today that he might have to pack his job in, in order to train, hope that it doesn't come to that and his bosse's can give him the time of to train. Is this Japanese guy that good? Sounds like some on here don't give Rendall a chance.

cordoba was a very good fighter.

cordoba wasn't robbed vs poonsawat. it was extremely close and hard fought, a fight as good as dunne v cordoba.

nishioka v munroe could be as good as any of those fights. super bantam is a really gritty blue collar division and i have high expectations for nishioka v munroe.

nishioka is freakishly tough and he has a pretty good punch. he's very sharp once he has warmed into a rhythm. he'll be looking for a big performance, because all the other japanese world champs have been beaten (hasegawa, nashiro and kameda).

we all know how strong, relentless and fit munroe is. i doubt these guys are going to be dancing on their toes and throwing counter shots. i predict lots of aggression and body punching, in particular, from both sides.

Munroe will try his trademark leaning on his opponent on the ropes and throwing pitter patter shots but it won't work because Nishioka's movenent is too good so he won't be easily pinned down. I don't think this will be anywhere close to how good Dunne V Cordoba was as Munroe is pretty one dimensional so I see a shut out for Nishioka.

ha, one reason munroe took so long to get a shot, because you and a couple of message boarders felt maludrottu beat him.

yes, we know it wasn't a final elim, so there are no guarantees, but perhaps a different promoter may have been aggressive pushing munroe for his title. who knows. also, i believe munroe's ppl were maybe holding out and hoping for a bernard dunne payday. it does seem to have worked out ok, because munroe delivered in the 2nd elim fight and got a rare stoppage win over a useful fighter. but perhaps they were in no hurry to deal with the japanese promoters and the inevitable trip abroad?

Or maybe his own camp didn't feel he was ready for a World shot after the Maludrottu fight considering how it went.
I don't think Maloney would voluntarily let Munroe go to Japan to fight for a title, the Japanese would never make a big offer for Munroe to come over as a voluntary(Munroe holds no real value to them) and Maloney doesn't have the cash to bring someone like Nishioka over to the UK. A mandatory fight was the only way this would ever happen and Rendall will now be well paid getting 40% of whatever won the purse bids(which I'm going to assume will be high enough given it's a top Japanese fighter defending his title in Japan).

I don't think Rendall getting his shot any earlier would have benefited him either, he needed the fight with Terrazas imo.

>>Maludrottu isn't a good enough standard for a final elim

Why? He was good enough to got a shot at the WBC title after god knows how many EBU defences (the WBC automatically rank EBU and British title holders as they are WBC members).

I think Monroe's got his work cut out for him.

Incidentally, his wardrobe at the Dome show the other week was absolutely shocking.

That was at Bantamweight, where he had proved himself a decent fighter(albeit in a poor European division), lets not forget during that reign he was shown up badly the first time he fought Damaen Kelly. At Super-Bantamweight he fought a range of European level journeyman(and was took to a mixed decision by one of them) before being named European mandatory and getting a World title eliminator.

Also in the fight before Maludrottu fought for the WBC Bantamweight title, he was apparently given a gift against Mohamed Boulegcha. I didn't see the bout myself, but this is what rbr on the fought on another forum(ESB) said about it.

So why in your opinion should Maludrottu have deserved his final eliminator status at 122, considering he hadn't done anything impressive since he'd operated at 118 ?, it's not like he won a World title at Bantamweight to be treated as a big name fighter when he moved up either. He was a good standard European champion at the weight below, and frankly he should have had to beat a fighter ranked by the EBU at Super-Bantamweight before he became their mandatory, I'm not even asking for him to have faced Dunne or Martinez or Booth, just any ranked fighter.

I'm aware of the EBU and BBBofC's relationship with the WBC, however the WBC have removed the top 15 rule for European title holders for some time now, and although winning and defending British/European(and to a lesser extent Commonwealth) titles does significantly boost your ranking compared to beating the same fighters without the belts on the line, it does not guarantee you eliminators at the weight above, especially when you've already relinquished your title from the weight below.

i know it's been thoroughly discussed before big ears - and plenty of reasons have come up - but i just found it frustrating when there seemed to be no news, for so long, about the title shot post maludrottu. it made me wonder at the time if they wanted to truly go thropguh with it, despite choosing the WBC title as their route.

at the time, i felt given the sheer effort munroe had put into a gruelling fight, that he "deserved" the shot and might have needed it quickly. this proved not to be the case as he showed improvements, in physically dominating terrazas after a slow start.

let's not forget, at one point munroe was european champion, and his ppl were talking about moving back down for the commonwealth title, something that had me badly baffled. so this was playing on my mind. i can't remember if i've got the chronology right, but it seemed after munroe had won the first elim, they were still talking about bernard dunne, even after dunne had been mashed for good without a prayer of making 122 ever again even if he wanted to.

i suppose getting nishioka and dunne would be kind of like haye getting mormeck (the champ) and macca (the lucrative fight). haye did try to get macca first. anyway, seems like they're properly moving for munroe, giving him the momentum he needs, something that didn't quite work out for jamie moore (whom i felt was the superior fighter).

nishioka's definitely not having an easy night. munroe has been pretty well seasoned - he's not being thrown in and left to drown like lockett, jennings etc who'd done nothing to prepare them for their shots - and he'll make a fight of it. i don't expect munroe to win, but if he makes it close and exciting, maybe there'll be more chances. this is how nishioka got to the top, thrown in 4x with the exceptional veeraphol, before finally delivering. nishioka is definitely the cleaner, harder puncher, but munroe is the bigger, fresher man.

Plenty of people get a shot at a higher weight after performing at a lower weight.

I remember the massive stink over the first Kelly fight, I personally didn't think it was that bad but it became moot when he dusted him in 3 in the rematch.

It would seem you just don't like the guy and never have and will find any reason you can to discredit him. I seem to remember you're Irish and made a huge fuss over the first Kelly fight, so that's probably the source of your bitterness.

I don't have a problem with Maludrottu, he's a good fighter and I scored him a winner over Munroe(something you wouldn't expect someone to do in a close fight when they've a problem with the guy) but being realistic can you explain to me why he deserved final eliminator status at the weight above where he had success. Yes normally fighters do get a shot after performing at a lower weight, but performing is winning a title at the weight below. Had he done that I'd have no problem with him getting final eliminator status at the weight above.
I haven't even said he didn't deserve to be involved in eliminators at all, merely why he shouldn't have been involved in a final eliminator, and when asked to justify why he deserved to be part of a final eliminator you start trying to say I'm bitter rather than giving me an answer.

So I'll ask again, why did Maludrottu deserve Final eliminator status at Super-Bantamweight ?

really, if the fight has been sanctioned as an eliminator, the winner should get the shot. in this era of multiple titles, we also get multiple eliminators, which is silly.

do ppl seriously think maludrottu won?
