That was a dive, clear as the light of day. The jab did not even land. Briggs deserves to be torn to shreds over this.

He should have studied some Herbie Hide video's beforehand for tips on taking a dive, he did'nt even roll his eye's  Herbie will be disgusted :DD

jeff fenech says green knew what he was getting himself into.

http://www.watoday.com.au/sport/boxing/ ... utostart=1

briggs off going on 4 years and given 6 weeks to train, FFS. i'll keep saying it, he shouldn't have been in there in the first place. green must have hoped briggs' lack of reflexes would make him an easy target and briggs' (once) great chin would let him get broken down.

briggs has embarrassed himself but green has just become the king of all bottom feeders. if Briggs if a "fvcking dog", as green put it, then green isn't much better.

Gents,

Just take a quick look at the Aussie forum and you will see that all posters are referring to this event as the second darkness evnt in sporting history...

PS. That is second behind their cricket team going 88 all out against PAK (he he he...)

Seriously??? I wonder what will happen. That was the worst dive ever. Briggs was a fat pig as well.....feel sorry for anyone paying to watch that
That will be more down to the lack of interest in the fight and the lack liquidity within in the market, how much was actually matched at evens?
Very good point that I overlooked - with Betfair it's the punters who place the bet offers, so the odds available are only on offer if someone bothers putting them up. I have seen low interest fights with silly prices (such as 1.01 on both fighters).

BUT Aussie bookmakers are saying that the odds on traditional fixed markets went down to about evens on the first two rounds.

That might've been due to Briggs' awful condition at the weigh in though

Surely the fact several large bets were placed on an early KO would be what forced the odds down?

Correct - but Betfair is a slightly different animal to traditional fixed odds bookies.

It is not a one bookmaker with an automated betting system, but loads of individuals manually offering odds.

AS I understand the odds at traditional Aussie bookies were bet down as you say.

Sure, Betfair is odd in that respect but generally speaking their odds are slightly more favourable than other online bookies.

Sad to see this to be honest, I always liked Briggs as he rose to the top but he has been very inactive for one reason or another. Methinks in the prime of both of their careers this would have been a real war.

indeed, very sad to see a proud warrior like briggs reduced to this.

briggs was probably chosen for his name and his chin, and the fact that he'd be seriously beaten to the punch by an active green, who would steadily beat him down and look very impressive while doing it.

at least this way green gets no credit for beating briggs, who - it is clear - should not have been fighting.

i agree, it would have been an amazing fight in 2005 or 2006. briggs was a formidable light heavy and IMO one of the better recent fighters not to win a world title this decade. green would show a serious improvement in form moving from 168 to 175. it could have been an aussie vazquez-marquez - and it would have been a far better time to put it on PPV, when both of them could compete at a good level.

time for green to step up, or look a complete twat. he is capable of giving champs at 175 or 200 a good argument, especially if he gets home advantage. no doubt he was making good money and taking few shots - cash out and leave boxing with health and wealth intact. but he has to do something big, to keep on a big stage and big money. the previous fight, manny siaca, was stretching it beyond breaking point.

I understand our old pal Martin Gillick is next for Green

:D

well, its a possibility as martin gillick is ranked 308th in europe at cruiserweight, there are actually 30 cruiserweights ranked below him in europe !!!!! .... :oo

that would be annoying, wouldn't it? i don't think green could get away with it now.

looks like it's green vs shane cameron, who will probably have to come down from heavyweight to cruiser.

cameron, as many know, was annihilated by david tua late last year.
