He was popular enough, in his time. Never huge, no, but then, few boxers are nowadays. Even "World" Champions.

Basically to echo what other people have said... the first people to hear about you/watch you will be the locals so use the local press...

...maybe try to get yourself invited to local schools to talk to them about how boxing saved you from prison (I'm guessing here but fill in the blanks). Don't just turn up at Sports Day they have a list for people like that.

It only gets harder! Ive had 6 now i have got my own website etc id open an envelope in the local post office if it helped sell a ticket lol. Started to do a lot of charity work hopefully that pays off just done a tough guy challenge for deprived kids meet some great ppl hopefully they will come to some of my future fights.

Try approaching your local paper/local radio station to get some coverage. If you build up a good reputation and you keep winning things will soon spread.

These days every division has lots of prospects with records built against all the same journeymen and losers. National papers aren't going to cover them all.
