Briggs was very stressed about money at his peak according to his book.He also took a lot of drugs in his time, had some real wars in kickboxing, boxing and on the street and had a three year lay-off.He is a prime candidate for nuerological problems.

it's just very sad, that a once proud, hard warrior like briggs has been reduced to this.
should green - as fighter and promoter - and aussie TV - selling it as PPV - been so willing to go along with this?
green should have taken the momentum of the RJJ win and actually landed a top 10 wrld class opponent.
briggs should have stayed behind the microphone, as commentator for danny green and anthony mundine mismatches.

Usually if an excuse sounds like bollocks, it's because it is bollocks.
Throw in a bit of 'he couldn't even remember which car was his own' and you've really got to be taking the piss.

Green knew excatly what was going on they were mates, Green knew he was shot , like Fenech said he'd already ko'ed him in spariing 5 years before , It was common knoledge Peter Metresky who just lost in the UK ko'ed Briggs a few times in sparring leading up to the fight , Briggs did'nt bother sparring or trying to get in shape after that .
It was basicly for Briggs , a final payday he was broke his missis had left him , the disco pills and the wars in the ring had taken there toll , He sold his name for 250, grand .
The real culprit here is the promoter , He would off known the ins and outs and all the rumors and inuendoes about how badly Briggs was shot , But he also new that the Aussie Public who adored Briggs for being a real warrior were by the same rule not privvy to the info and facts on how bad he was , and they would pay to see Briggs of old, put an end to Greens bullshit, and staged fights ,against old guys coming for a payday , they truly beleived that Briggs may have had something left
But the promoter knew better why simple because he was , Briggs mate , , he knew Briggs had been getting knocked about in sparring , he himself had ko'ed Briggs in sparring , who was the promoter you guessed it .
Mr Dannyweight Green ,to try and get himself another bullshit title , only good thing to come out of this sorry mess , is that Briggs did'nt trust him enough to have a hard spar and go a few rounds . So the first thing he done was took a glancing jab and went down , The other result could off been he actually went in to do a hard spar and got killed .
At least it woke the public up to Green ,
Then again if any of the big money , put down can be traced back to Green or Briggs , jail sentences could and should be issued

Given that a boxer's main aim is to knock his opponent out, how can he be blamed for a "fixed" first round KO?
What are they going to say- he tried to punch his opponent?
There (presumably) isn't anything illegal about a fighter better on himself to win.
That said, if a guy bet on himself on points, and held off stopping an opponent (for example) that could be dodgy.

Cruiserweight Troy Ross, winner of Season 4 of The Contender television series, has called out IBO Champion Danny Green describing him as a fraud. “He defended his title against a guy who hadn’t fought in nearly 3 years last week, who was a light heavyweight that had retired on medical grounds,” stated Ross. “In his previous defense he pulled the same act dragging a middleweight who had fought one solitary round in 2 years in Manny Siacca? To add further insult he calls Paul Briggs a dog and humiliates him by hurling insults from inside the ring! I saw it on youtube and couldn’t believe it. In America he would be lucky to leave the ring alive with a low act like that – but in this case the commissions would never allow a farce like that to happen here in the first place.”
Contender Executive Producer Jeff Wald added, “It was sad to see Paul Briggs lured out of retirement and treated in the manner he was. Giving him little time to prepare when he hasn’t fought in 3 years is one thing but to then add to it by reducing the weight limit like that was simply insulting. The message is loud and clear – anywhere anytime Danny. Troy is happy to come to your backyard and knock you out in your home country. It’s sure to generate plenty of revenue because from what we are hearing over hear it looks like the Australian public will be happy to pay to see you knocked out…here is your golden opportunity to prove to Australia you are a true champion. I’m guessing he will convert to wrestling or competitive table tennis before he will enter the ring with Troy.”
courtesy of frightnews,
i agree totally with the underrated and unlucky cruiserweight troy ross, and hope green actuall rises to the challenge of someone as talented as the canadian. ross is actually a small cruiserweight, weighing in little more than the old limit of 190-pounds. obviously ross needs a career lift after the controversial stoppage to steve cunningham on a sauerland show.

but the sparring stuff was reported before the day of the fight, the puking and so on.
and anyone could see briggs was woefully out of shape after the weigh in.
