It's disgusting how Billy has been treated by the Hattons!!! Billy was very knowledgable about the game, Knew his fighters inside out, I remember having a conversations with him in his old office about fighters like Judah,Toney ,Mayweather and Roy Jones Jr and he knew all about them.. Also smaller fighters like Emmanuel Augustus, He knew every decent fighter in the game... I liked Billy, He loved his fighters that's for sure! I remember him kicking off when Paul was given Howard Clarke on his debut, he wasn't happy with him for a debut opponent and wanted Paul to knock it back but Paul wouldn't have non of it and did a thourough job on him. He always argued the case for his fighters no matter who it was!! Wore his heart on his sleeve, The only downside to Billy was imo he trained them the same but he got fantastic results doing it his way, Hatton,Thompson,Brodie and so many others! he liked to get them to be aggresive counter punchers. He always put Hatton first though, ALWAYS... To be treated like he has been by them is truly disgusting, I hope Billy gets every penny he is owed off them I really do...

I remember when I was about 14 Paul Burke took me down there to train a few times and Billy made a bit of a fuss and told me I'd be a champ one day- meant a lot as a young kid. Really like him- think he did a great deal with the fighters he acquired from Phil Martin and, of course Hatton.

Think he's definitely missed.

I don't think Billy can take credit for this tactic - It's been round for decades!
When I was amateur, Andy Holligan told me that when I turn, go with Billy Graham and allegedly as they're the best two.

I meant the phrase. It's become synonymous with Graham and Hatton, coined around the time of the Mayweather fight.

Google it and see what I mean, they're all articles quoting Graham.

Hello Howard,

I'm reading Dave Mathews book presently. From memory, you had some reservations about how it depicted certain characters and/or you and Dave don't get on as well these days, can't remember, it was a line or two in a previous thread.

Anyhow, I'm enjoying the read, and specifically, reading some of the training methods you were using. Curious contraptions etc.

Do many of them survive today?

Just curious.

David, Me and Dave get on well, no problem. Still coming up with things all the time, thats why ive given up coaching full time. Consentrate on other things. Sheffield / Hallem Sports Science Department, are doing a 3 year Phd course on some of my work at the moment, all interesting stuff. Doing a video with certain people at the moment, as regards Boxing and Football, I mentor 2 Football skills coaches, who are doing rather well. :TU:

Yes; I'd be gutted; getting that money through the courts is a massive and expensive gamble. If people were honest it'd be much easier.

David, I think it was my post where I mentioned that in the book Dave Matthews said that at that time Terry Dunstan fancied himself as the 'guv'nor' of the gym and was always trying to get Clinton Woods in the ring to show him who's 'boss' (that's not verbatim as it's a few years since I've read it, but I'm sure that was the general gist).
I'm sure I remember Howard coming on here and saying that wasn't the case and that was an example of Dave using a bit of 'poetic licence'. Howard, you can clear it up if my memory's proving to be too hazy!
