dont hold your breath people. gbp will use big name's to detract the attention from khan's opponent's. once you see wear & tear & deteriation in fighter's of jmm calibre then these fight's may take place.

So we are not going to get Khan vs the Marquez/Diaz II winner?

i dont have a crystal ball, but chances are no.if jmm scrapes through & looks a tired out fighter as do many of the back of mayweather defeats the possibility will be alot higher.

well it seems JMM-diaz has become a tired out rivalry, but it's great that marquez came in at a weight he's effective at, light at that weight, and gave a dominant performance.

JMM did not carry 147 well at all. a lot of posters in the sickly pro maywreather threads do not acknowledge that marquez had no business at welter, whereas pac - who actually looked tight at 126 and 130 - handled the move up in weight better, and had handicapping on his side.

i don't know how well marquez will handle 140 but it's a chance to win the 4th world title. there doesn't seem to be much for him at 135. khan at 140 is a bigger fight than katsidis at 135.

JMM has options following his clear win over diaz in their rematch.

he wants pac in a rubber match, but that isn't too likley.

so he said he might defend his title vs michael katsidis.

or fight for "a 140-pound title."

likely it narrows down between katsidis at 135 and khan at 140. probably golden boy will try to use marquez to enhance the name of khan, a promising fighter, and then maybe move him back down if it goes badly for marquez, back to defending his 135 title if he still has it.

Why did the boxers wear different types of gloves in the bout? Diaz wore Everlast and Marquez Cleto Reyes. This seems to be happening more often and it seems to be a touch unfair (though both parties must agree).

Whichever way you look at it, it's a big fight for Khan and if he won that, I wouldn't be surprised at Golden Boy putting his name forward as a potential Mayweather opponent next year.
It's a pure business decision putting him in with Marquez.. Mark my words though, He goes anywhere near a ring with Mayweather and he'll get ruined... I think he'll beat Marquez quite easy and might even stop him if Im being honest, Marquez is so much easier to hit than he was 3 years ago, His reflexes have also slowed considerably but that's to be expected as the guy is 38 next month..

I give Amir 12 months and Golden boy will get him beat, I think Bradley,Alexander is 60/40 in there favour while I think he'll be kept away from Maidana. I see him being marketed towards Golden Boy fighters.. They'll keep Khan in house.. Also by stopping Marquez they'll say look he done a better job than Mayweather so match them, We all know if Mayweather wanted stop Marquez he could have when he dropped him in that 2nd...

if they keep him in house it'll surley be marquez and then ortiz. marquez can defend vs katsidis, but the aussie is no longer with GBP, and i think marquez will go with the money to fight khan. it would be interesting to see what khan would do, if marquez doesn't march to his tune. i suppose there's guerrero as well, who fights for golden boy, who won a fight somewhere between lightweight and light welter, last night (vs casamayor).

sound of thing's jmm wants the pacquio triology before retiring, i dont think any young pretenders get his juices flowing & the only fight he want's is pacquio, he only took on mayweather to work towARDS a rubber match.

it'll be interesting what marquez does. has he learned after being used by GBP to get a piece of mayweather in a weight mismatch? will he give in and let GBP do what is convenient for them, that is to offer him to khan at 140 (JMM does not belong above 135, really). the money will be tempting though, and he will feel he can KO khan, but that is ultimately marching to the tune of ppl who want to build the future (khan) rather than featuring ageing (if excellent) names.

no it never & mayweather's sportmanship of not honouring the catchweight at 10-5 was disgusting as jmm is not really a big lightweight & was jumping 2 divisions. i suppose it's no diffrent to pacquio boiling down his opponents but fm had no defecits.

maybe fighting khan is the closest he'll get??? if he was with arum thing's would look rosier for him.

schaefer saying he doesn't think marquez-pac 3 happens unless marquez can do something big like beating khan, because otherwise arum will keep pac in house.

in other words, he wants to showcase khan against marquez, who - it is perhaps safe to say - does not perform well above 135.

I think JMM should stay at Lightweight, I would like to see him fight Katsidis and if he wins that then maybe Soto.

reckon he'll want that 4th title and the big payday, and that GBP will push for this fight as they need names for their future.

as a JMM fan, i'd love to see him continue to excel at lightweight. he's been great to watch since he slowed down, sat more on his shots, giving him greater opportunities to get big names and greater opportunities to batter his opponents. i like it that montiel has also been doing this, of recent.

wouldn't it be funny if a) JMM gunned for his 4th title vs khan and b) if montiel gunned for his 4th world title, at 122 (having won belts at 112, 115 and 118) vs the nishioka-munroe winner, especially if munroe manages to dethrone nishioka. that would have an interesting british/mexican angle, for sure. obviously, montiel must get by donaire,a great little fight.

and of course, soto whom you mentioned above, alexpaterson. i used to be a fan of soto's steady but sure style. but this guy has wasted his career with fouling, and has been challengers. at lightweight, he has become a true bore - i never would have believed i;d say this. soto v david diaz is one of the worst fights i've come across...soto apparently is chasing his 4th "world title." wants a 140 belt, too. this is a con. he was only Interim champ at 126, before winning WBC baubles at 130 and 135.

i think lightweight will continue to flourish, with guys like ji hoon kim, murray, peterson, katsidis, acosta, funeka and so on (perhaps antillon, if he can tough it out). this is a rough, tough tricky top 10 and there could be some excellent fights.

Mexico's ageless Juan Manuel Marquez says he wants Manny Pacquiao again after his fine display against Juan Diaz over the weekend in Las Vegas. Marquez, all of 37 later this month, romped to a unanimous decision over the much younger Diaz and has a draw with Pacquiao on his 57-fight record and a split decision defeat so a third showdown looks a natural, although Pacquiao is out on November 13 against Antonio Margarito.
The silky skilled Marquez is out himself on December 11 when he tackles Britain's young, quick but relatively untested Amir Khan, now fighting out of Los Angeles. Khan, 23, wears the WBA light-welterweight belt and arguably the worst beard at world level since the days of Floyd Patterson, but Marquez is more boxer than puncher and a blown-up featherweight and we are likely to get 12 rounds of quality boxing from which both men emerge with credit.
Team Khan has an annoying habit of looking at down for opponents. Marquez is perennially undervalued but fights at lightweight. Michael Katsidis, likely to get the nod for Khan afterwards, also fights at lightweight. Once upon a time you cleaned out your division before you looked around like this but Khan, promoted by Oscar De La Hoya, gets the cotton wool treatment because he was smashed in under a minute by a mediocre Colombian two years ago and because De La Hoya treats boxing as a private club to be enjoyed by his fighters only, which means they all fight each other, regardless of weight. That way De La Hoya gets a cut from both corners, Last time out in May, Khan picked off De La Hoya stooge Paulie Malignaggi for 11 one-sided rounds in New York, a man previously also stopped in 11 in the States by Ricky Hatton, a man with a laughably poor knockout rate.
As for Marquez, he starts slowly and there is a small possibility that the fast-starting Khan could blitz him early, and he also busts up, and we cannot rule out injuries after Khan busted up Marco Antonio Barrera last year in Manchester, but more likely is the close, enjoyable 12-rounder I talked about to save them for another day, for another round of the Partridge Family.

After Saturday's showing I would strongly favour JMM to KO Kahn, if he catches him with any of the combos he put on Diaz, Kahn is going over. It's just whether he can catch the fast footed Kahn

There doesn't seem to be a level playing field with Amirs' fights; he seems to get the advantages over the other boxer. Marquez will be too small for Khan who should fight his mandatory or relinquish; never mind the champions from the next weight down.

Khan is an absolute beast at 140lbs and wouldn't look out of place at welter, so that makes GBP's choice of opponent very hard to take.

King Geedorah wrote:I'm a big Marquez fan and hope he retires. Manny III is not going to happen and this one would be similar to the Floyd defeat. Juan looked badly faded at the weekend. It would be a shame to see him lose to Amir, no disrespect to Khan but it would be a sad night as Marquez would be losing to a top-level novice and it would look bad on his record.

Amir should fight Tim Bradley. He'd boxed rings around the guy.
I saw the first signs of decay too. Timing wasn't as good, though he has had a long lay-off. Surprised to see him come under the limit by so much too.

I disagree about Khan v Bradley.

Another way of looking at it, is that Marquez gets a crack at a title at 140, against the most vulnerable world champion out there.

Khan will be way bigger, but Marquez only needs to tag him with one of those uppercuts and he'll be out like a light. Diaz is a much tougher nut than Amir, and Marquez had him in a world of trouble.

imagine if khan did lose to marquez. never mind the fact that he'd be rehabilitated by promoters and TV after losing to a legend. the media would come down like a ton of bricks on him, for losing to an older, smaller man.

i would like to see marquez just carry on defending the lightweight title. katsidis is the mandatory is he not, so it's a fight that can happen. GBP have done well for marquez - they've taken his career further than any other promoter - but they've also used him.

i'm not completely sold on badley, but he is a stubborn operator, willing to try anything to win, who keeps adding to his game, and isn't cautious to take on ppl his own size or bigger.

while khan has improved, i he's not my kind of fighter. i can appreciate he's been effective. but i don't like his flicking amateur way of punching, lack of a quality right hand, and inability to work inside. he reminds me of the likes of ward, dirrell, and going back, another one-handed champ trained by freddie roach, virgil hill.
