I think Booth knows not to rush him but calls out everyone anyway in the knowledge the fights arent going to be made.Hes done exactly the same,at a much higher level, with Haye and its backfired. He now has the Klitschko brothers after him so hes gone after Audley!

Always said Degale would beat Groves, and last night's fight has affirmed my beliefs.

Thought Sky might have shown the fight considering he's a Brit, but I guess we only have a few rounds to judge him on.

He's too open for my liking and gets tagged far too easily. He's only young and has plenty of time to work on the little things, so I don't think he should be rushed which seems to be what's happening.

Oh yes he did mate. Badly too.

I think it was Oganov who dropped him quite heavily but it wasn't in his early fights and Im pretty sure Oganov was an undefeated puncher BUT I could be wrong there??
I don't think it was Oganov (who i think may have lost once prior to the Dirrell fight, but not sure). I thought it was a journeyman who'd badly hurt Dirrell, but from memory I didn't think he'd put him down, rather he'd just buzzed him really badly. Can't for the life of me remember the name of the opponent, but if you search the forum his name came up in conversations prior to the Froch fight as 'proof' that Dirrell had a questionable chin.

Oganov had been beaten before he fought Dirrell (Zuniga). He has since been knocked out by 10-0 Mick Bolling. He also lost a decision against a 5-1 journeyman at the end of last year.

The fight which Dirrell was decked good and proper was by Alfonso Rocha, a 7-3 journeyman of no pedigree.

Actually saved you all the trouble, he was indeed dropped (very) heavily - you can even see the footage here:

This was the man responsible:

Yeah I agree Bomber, there's no rush with Groves - but it's clear, they are moving him VERY quickly. Samuels was a risky one so early on, George got him out of there, but imagine if a puncher like Samuels had landed something....trouble is, Booth has not much experience matching up prospects with the right fights...of course he's done brilliantly with Haye, but you could say DH is a one off ( but he still managed to rush him anyway ).

Does anyone have a linjk to the vid? Groves is one of our most exciting talents so hopefully it's a nerves thing.

Paul smith stop groves on last night performance IMO

Groves is a very exciting prospect, prospect being the key word.

However, last night was average and therefore he should be judged as such.

If Degale had fought like that people would be practically giddy on here...............

Paul Smith at this point would beat Groves easily

Just to clarify I was at no point trying to be arsey just like to see a level playing field with these things thats all.

Groves potentially is very good and last night was a good wake up call.

I am not 100% how well he holds a shot. If pushed I would say Degale goes further but both very good prospects.

Just watched the fight, Groves did get caught early on, but he wasn't in bad trouble just knocked back on his feet for a second, recovered quickly and won the round.
Overall he wasn't as impressive as he'd would of wanted to be, maybe that was part of the problem, trying to impress a bit to much instead of just letting his boxing flow.

But saying that, in every round he landed some nice sharp punches, and it was only his 10th fight and on a big bill in the US.

Plenty more to come from him, I think he'll be back in America soon

I thought he looked worryingly in trouble just for that brief 1 second when his lights did seem to flicker. Worrying sign really if he does get tagged by someone with real power.

Other than that I thought he did fairly well, looked nervous and tense but then settled down and started picking some shots. His left hand low style will get him in trouble in better class, that is for sure, we said it all through Froch's rise and it eventually caught up with him, although only really at the top level. He does in some ways remind me of a young Froch, some of the punches he lands with the low left and some of the angles he finds are similar.

All in all I agree with the earlier guy who said it raised probably more questions than answers, personally I think DeGale has more tidy skills and an all round better style to get right to the top, think Groves could get to a euro belt maybe and a fringe world title if handled correctly.

Bit of both i think.

At the end of the day, the likes of Andre Dirrell were dropped like a sack of spuds and saved by the bell in their first handful of fights. Now people cannot lay a glove on him.

George pulled a funny face, but found his stride and got the win. He wasn't sparked out or touching down, cut up or anything daft.
agreed, gomez

i didn't think Groves looked as bad as some are saying. i think he sets up his sttacks quite well for a novice pro. uses feints well, decent footwork, decent variety to his attacks

i want to see him go to the body more, though.

Groves is a great attacking fighter, he looked a bit befuddled at times though when he was under attack and under pressure, he seems to need more work on that aspect of the game. I also noticed a couple of times him closing his eyes when it became a bit 'toe to toe'. Not a clever thing to do I don't think!

Do the silly billies still think the Groves that fought Contreras would've beat Smith?

I said he'd be competitive.

And I wouldn't wish to repeat the error of haste and write Groves off after one fight.

After all....he got hit on the head, his knees dipped.

It wasn't a disaster.

Jeez, I am not writing him off - I like the lad and his potential. I only disputed the fact that some people on here said that Groves, at the moment, would be favourite in a fight with Paul Smith. I said that was silly, and I'm asking now whether people still believe that would be the case.

I agree Dioufy, making him a favourite was daft. However, I maintain he'd be competitive but I suggest it with less conviction than previously.

Fair enough, and as I said in the other thread, I think it may be a little competitive, but I feel it would ultimately end in Groves with an L.

Smith has a little too much for him, at the moment, IMO.
