When you turn over, you know the score. The trainer gets 10% of your fight earnings.
When negotiating a purse your 'walk away' figure should be in your head minus trainer, cutsman, sparring, expenses and taxes.
To all of a sudden say to a trainer, "right, you've been with me from day one, got me to this level where I am earning loads - now take this or f*ck off!"
Just my opinion obviously like.
My manager has never took a penny from me.
There's been a lot who've hit the big time and not had the same principles as you; hope you're an example to others.

If I hit the big time then I'll try!

thanx for your replies interesting stuff i remember when nigel benn got a big purse in the region of 400,000 and offered his then trainer jimmy tibbs 25,000 and jim, quite rightly turned it down, as he'd expected his usual 10%, it was at this moment that they split and nigel went elsewhere

Do any of you guys get charged for your medicals? as I know of promoters who do charge the fighters.
In addition - I see from a couple of posts some fighters paying the cutsman - I know of promoters who pay those charges.
