Anyone here have any private Super 8 mm film,16 mm film or personal video-tap
of Duane Bobick training?
An individual from Minnesota is searching for any.
Check the Cyberboxingzone,Fight film,collectabiles forum.

I have footage of Bobick winning the 1972 Golden Gloves, I cant remember who he is fighting but I believe it takes place in Texas.

hey Klompton, would you post that over at the cyberboxing zone/fight tapes, collectables forum?
Is that the 45th annual National Golden Gloves finals in Minneapolis March 1972 ,where Bobick defeated Nick Wells in the semi-finals
and Steve Williams for the GG title?
or the preliminary U.S Olympic Boxing trials?
where Duane Bobick defeated Nick Wells in Fort Worth Texas July 1972?
Were you there and did you film it yourself ,or did you video-tape it off of television?
If so,I dont know if the poster oldschoolhistorain has that, most likely he does, but who knows.

I just re-checked it. I think its actually Nick Wells knocking out someone in the Golden Gloves. A tall, blond headed guy with
"Ft. Worth" in blue and gold on his jersey. If I had to guess Id say its the regional Golden Gloves tournament held in Ft. Worth in 1971 or 72.

Is Cyberboxingzone still a functioning forum? Last I heard they had no posters and gordoom was forced to start new threads by cutting and pasting articles he found around the web in order to try to generate activity.

Ice Tea is still on there giving out fighting tips.

For a man who once took on 30 blokes armed with an assortment baseball bats, samurai swords and shotguns, he is very humble.

Gordoom makes David Icke seem relatively normal.

I like Mike DeLisa and have a lot of respect for him. For his sake I hope its not true but his partner is an albatross around his neck. He drove the best message board on the internet into the ground. Until he gets rid of Gordoom things wont improve.

CBZ lost credability with me years ago when I forwarded newspaper articles of Luther McCarty losing a fight with Harry Hollinger in Sidney, Ohio before McCarty turned into a household now, and Tracy Callis never added it to the record. And for that matter neither has BoxRec.

As far as I know,Duane Bobick's first Nationally televised pro fight,
was the final preliminary to the
Muhammad Ali vrs Richard Dunn bout
May.23.1976
which was televised live from Munich Germany on NBC.
Bobick fought the Jamaican boxer Bunny Johnson.
He knocked Johnson down in the second round, and knocked him out with body shots in the ninth round.
(scheduled for 12 rounds).
Are there any earlier known filmed/televised Duane Bobick fights then this one?
Duane Bobick vs Bunny Johnson May 1976.
Duane Bobick's pro record was 35-0-0 going into that fight.

Does it mention which local television station it was aired on?
A few years ago someone was looking for a few other local tv bouts.

I wouldnt be surprised if the Duane Bobick vs Mike Schutte fight
was televised in South Africa. It happened 6 weeks after the Knoetze bout in 1978.
Shortly after that, Bobick's publicty manager David Wolf, got Bobick a screen test
for the lead role in a boxing movie being made in South Africa called BILLY BOY.
Which got limited release in America.
6 years ago you could buy a VHS copy for about 5 dollars on-line,
but now you cant buy one under 40 dollars.

BTW here is some Duane Bobick trivia.
Shortly after the release of Billy Boy in 1978,
(where Bobick got some pretty good reviews, even using a British accent in it)
Did you know the producers of the comedy tv show TAXI,
were just about to sign up Duane Bobick for the role of Tony Banta
but at the last minute they hired Tony Danza.

Reading all these posts, yes Duane's style may have changed too much after he signed with Frazier.

If you watch Bobick-Holmes (amat.) you can see Bobick actually had a nice jab.

Would love to see some Bobick-LeDoux or Bobick-Prater Action but haven't been able to find it.

Would also like to see Lyle-Bonavena or Lyle-Ellis and have never found a second of either of those.

I've always been fairly fascinated by Bobick & his career. From his amateur days, right up until the bitter end.
He really did have some remarkable & interesting accomplishments such as his 60 bout winning streak following his loss to Ron Lyle. All within the span of a couple of years.
Then, there was the way in which his 38-0 pro record was built up via the old fashioned "barnstorming tour" method rather than having him fight the vast majority of his bouts at home like most popular prospects did & continue to do to this day. Even after his losses to Norton & Knoetze he continued this approach.
It's fairly tragic that so few of his fights have survived on video. Very odd considering how well known & popular he was as he was coming up, but then again, much of that can be directly attributed to the way he was handled & brought up through the ranks. Fighting so frequently in untelevised contests in smaller venues in "tank towns" across the country.
