I'm aware. I explained my reasoning briefly. Fighters like Fitzsimmons, Barbados Joe, Tszyu, McLarnin, etc. are hard to place in lists like these because they can be claimed by a number of nationalities.

Let's just have fun with this and count someone if they lived in Canada for a good chunk of their life growing up.

Not counting Langford, here's a top 10:

Carl Tremaine beat more good fighters than Gatti and Chuvalo combined.

Jimmy McLarnin should not be in no Canadian list of great fighters. He was indeed Irish. That is like saying the great Sam Langford is American because he fought out of Boston, MA.

It's pretty standard for fighters to be linked to their long time residence. I never see anyone admonished for listing Benitez as Puerto Rican.

His parents are Puerto Rican. And he lived all his life in Puerto Rico. He knows Spanish, too. And he also acknowledged himself as Puerto Rican. McLarnin never said that he was Canadian. He was always referred to himself as Irish.

Wilfred was born in New York. McClarnin is widely referred to as Canadian. I'm from Irish heritage, but I've never been to Ireland. If you posed this question on every message board in existence. McClarnin would be the overwhelming answer.

Good catch. He was born in toronto. He has to be close to being in the top 5 Canadian fighters.

That's an interesting find. He obviously isn't as well known as Chuvalo and Gatti.

Chuvalo was a heavyweight who who fought a lot of well-knwn heavyweights and Gatti was active not that long ago.

Tremaine wasn't a heavyweight and fought a long time ago, so naturally he isn't remembered much.
-Tremaine beat some good fighters-Cannon Ball Eddie Martin, Frankie Mason, 3 Newspapers Decisoons over Memphis Pal Moore, and Newspaper Decision over Stoy.

-Chuvalo beat Robert Cleroux, Jerry Quarry and Doug Jones. (not counting a way past it Cleveland Williams)

-Gatti beat Tracy Patterson and Gabriel Ruelas. (Calvin Grove and Leijia were way past it when Gatti beat them.)

None of the three beat any legends. all beat also beat some fighters that were a nothc below the defeated fighters mentioned.

Hard to compare Tremaine,Chuvalo, and Gatti's careers against each other. However, it's nice that guys like Tremaine get mentioned once in a while. There are so many fighters that while not great, were very good fighters. Guys that would probably have won a belt had they fought in a later era where there are 3 or 4 "champions".
