Come on - humour me - why on earth cant you and Degale get it on.
I am willing to bet - you would make more money in a massive showdown with Degale than you would fighting for a meaningless and spurious world title belt unless its for WBA, WBC or the IBF of course.

Spudley my mate. Business is business and a fight now doesn't make business sense. James Degale is an Olympic gold medallist.
I sell 8,000 tickets for our Liverpool shows. I have decent rankings at world level and I have a great promoter with pull. I want a world title which I believe I can win then you know what, Degale can have a shot and we'll make a right few quid.
Hello Pal!!
Yep agree you are with a top promoter - the best in Europe as far as I am concerned - although I dont like him to much!!!
I keep banging on about this fight because I have a hunch Boxing politics will get in the way unless Mr W arren digs very deep into his pocket and makes a very good offer.
But Smigga - the key issue is "boxing politics" - you need to find a champion who can make a voluntary and is willing to come to Liverpool - that will cost Mr W arren a few quid.
Not really Spud, WBO rankings. 3 above are in supersix and Pavlik going back to 160. If they call a mandatory it's me.
Hurlock, I'm not in the game for belts as a priority. With the said belts with eagles on comes top dollar. I've got a family and a nice little house that needs paying off. If the deals don't come off (it's a very big IF) then going to Uzbekistan isn't a problem let alone Germany.

Thanks for the reply.
I think Mr W arren will have done absolutely brilliantly if he gets you a "home" world title shot - I have a hunch you might have to travel.
Stubborness - tells me that you should get it on with Degale!!!

i havent said he cant or aint capable of winning, just take carl froch's journey for example, how hard did he have it getting a title fight. & we all know why.

The promoter is out there to make himself and his fighters the most amount of money he/she possibly can during there career. You look out for the best interests of all your fighters, and definitely don't use your stable as cannon fodder for your brightest prospect.
Degale will be looking at a shot at the British title after his win over Dilks tonight. That is fair enough, but I don't think Paul Smith will be the man still holding it.
Surely it would be in the best interests of career advancement for Magee to get a worl title shot and vacte the European strap. Smith then fights for the vacant European belt and then Degale can fight for the British title against whoever the board deem worthy. The person I think should get that chance is Tony Quigley.
EDIT: Just noticed Smigga's post about the WBO ranking situation. Quite right to be looking at that fight if they do give you a mandatory shot. Its not like Stieglitz is the second coming of Jones Jnr and you need to make the money when the opportunity to do so presents itself.

Regardless of the inevitable promoter issue, he had it hard because he had to rush with his age. He didn't turn pro at 18, 19 or 20 he was 25 years old.

your a bright lad & would easily succeed outside of boxing but your probably a lazy buzzard

Just out of curiousity, what does Quigley deserve? He hasn't fought in a year. His fight before that was 7 months before that.
He pulled out of going to middleweight(11st 10lb) against Samuels for unknown reasons and had an "injury" recently.
In my opinion he is not deserving. losing a close fight for it a year ago isn't enough.
To reply to the suggestion, sounds great to me but Magee pulled out of the chance to fight me. He wants a world title fight and or a big payday. Who can argue with that.

It doesnt matter which boxer - or which promoter - when a fight isnt made they always blame the other side.
Now - the bloke at my corner shop has just said (late opening
) - Magee is still open to "very good" offers.

Carl Froch made his debut against Michael Pinnock on 16 Mar 2002 - then got his world title shot against Jean Pascal on 6 Dec 2008 - 6 and a bit years aint that bad.
Paul Smith made his debut against Howard Clarke on 05 Apr 2003 and is still waiting for his shot - that was on a W arren show.
Hennessy did a very job for Froch.

Another very sound piece of reasoning from you there Mr Smith. I had question marks over why Quigley had been out of action for so long, and as I was typing his name realised that I was unsure of his current circumstances. In saying that, if he can have a decent showing in the time it takes you to beat Paul David and possibly vacate???? Then I don't see why he wouldn't get a shot.
I should have maybe made it clearer that his fighting for any vacated title would hinge on activity level up to that point.

Oh if only matchmaking was so simple! Spud would be knighted
Regarding your point earlier re Steiglitz - He's certainly not as good as Kessler, Froch, Ward or to an extent, Direll. Same goes for Sartison. They're obviously good, but not the elite. That's the reason myself and Magee are screaming out for them.

I'm starting to think this too. He has time and freshness on his side to end up eventually getting a big Vegas or NYC night with Direll or Ward sometime in the future once Super Six is over and Kessler/Froch will have hung up the gloves (after Froch's promised fight with Pascal at LH)
Steiglitz and Sartison are definitely the road to the belts for Smith/Magee...This is where FW earns his money

I think people are taking groves too lightly on here!Dont get me wrong i could see degale beating groves but at the same time i could see the opposite aswell!Groves is pretty damn talented himself with fast hands and power!

I just dont think he's as good as people are building him up to be!I think the likes of Andre ward and Andre dirrell are more naturally talented as faster than degale is.I could be wrong but thats my general feeling at the mo!
