What about Barry McGuigan? A Catholic from the South of Ireland who married a Protestant girl from the North fought under the flag of peace, lost early in his career, fought Young Ali and Ali was left in a coma and died 5 months later which shook him up but fought on won the world title against the legendary Eusebio Pedroza in one of the great nights of British Boxing. I agree with one for Arturo Gatti as I think it should be done as well along with Johnny Tapia

I've seen a Dempsey movie and "The Great White Hope" about Johnson - Although I would have loved a Johnson movie with a younger Denzel Washington.
Spike Lee is trying to get a movie about Louis and Schmeling off the ground - Terrence Howard as Joe and Hugh Jackman as Joe.

There was tv movie I saw about Dempsey some time back, but I'd love to see a big budget version done.

If researched correctly, and filmed properly, I think Edwin Valero's story would certainly be interesting.

Yeah, I agree. In general the premature deaths are the easiest to make imo by virtue of the lack of life experiences at more advanced ages, so one could focus on possible childhood and then the full short career. Pancho Villa should be tossed in as well.

Johnny Tapia deserves a movie more than anyone in boxing past or present.

Dying by infection from a wisdom tooth, imo, would be anti climactic.

I have to give my vote to Edwin Valero. Tragic Story with a lesson to be learned. A fighters own struggle outside the ring. A warrior who although had a metal plate in the back of his head from a motorcycle accident and had several failed attempts to getting the approval from the commission to let him fight in the US due to his condition, kept fighting because it was the only thing that brought him back to earth. A look at man and his confrontation against his own demons. A peek at poverty life in Venezuela and the struggles therein. There's a lot more to the story than just the tragic ending. Edwin was a father of two, maybe the movie could help raise some money for the proper care of these children.. Is just throwing them to live with one of the family members going to help? they have to live the rest of their lives knowing or not knowing the truth behind their parents... Think of the circumstances they're in. A great tribute needs to be made not for only edwin but man's trouble with addiction and alcoholism, drugs and all of the mundane sanities that lead to the extremes in this world. Plus there's still the question if there was anything behind the alleged deaths of edwin and his wife.. what about the missing money that was rreported at the time of the incident... questions still linger..
