Most sports commentators I find irritating simply due to the endless waffle we have thrown at us all the way through, I can't see why they can't keep quiet until they have something relevant or new to add.

Personally having never EVER slagged commentators off in my life, Watt needs a new job. He is the same old stuff week in week out and far too negative. Says the basics to build up a fight that a bookmaker with little boxing knowledge could say and constantly contradicts himself.

"I couldn't argue which ever way this fight goes, it's that close!"
Stephen Smith's hand is raised on a split decision against fellow Scot.
"Well I know I said I wouldn't argue.... BUT...."

please dont turn this into a Scottish thing ,he constantly get's it wrong and is just generally a cock .The whole sky team eally annoy me but he is the one i would signal out as being the worse.Ive spoken to a few who have privatly shared the same opnion ...and im scottish too mate.

You're Scottish? With a name like Alba? Nooooo

I have nothing at all against the Jocks mate, honestly. I love going up there and have met some great lads in the amateurs and pros. Limmond, McEwan, Burns, Nelson, Arthur....

I sound like one of them racist nobheads there don't I? haha. "I've got loads of black mates!!!!!"

I'd have Pelé commentating and referring to himself any day - He was THE best.

SRL has an aura about him, a real glowing presence. To the point of being weird.
Best fighter I've ever seen, but his HUGE ego would get in the way of his commentating, the way Jim does - which is why he's never been picked up to do it full time - I think HBO gave him a go, and I do recall him predicting a fighter was gonna get flattened, as he was making a subtle mistake, and sure enough, he was sleeping a few minutes later.
Sugar always sounds like he's reading from a script too, a bit like Lennox.

As Mugabi says, Jim NEVER mentions his career, he's humble beyond belief ( on the surface ) which goes down so well over here. I bet Ray wouldn't be able to get through a broadcast without mentioning his own career....Great, great fighter though.

I'll always have a soft spot for Darke, he's great IMO, and Nelson has his moments, but Piper, McCrory and co have got to go...

There are a few recently retired boxers who would do a far, far better job and have their fingers on the pulse...plus I've no doubt the money and such a position would help their transition from the ring to real life...

Jamie Moore? Jon Thaxton?

Agreed about Jon Thaxton - intelligent and articulate.

Jim Watt does my head in.

He sounds so biased at times and likes to contradict himself.

Voice goes through me too, and friends who've stumbled across him when I'm watching the boxing, have always said mentioned how annoying he sounds.

I genuinely think Jim Watt is the best commentator on the sky team! He's the only one that doesnt kiss arse on a consistent basis unlike the other guys.Johnny nelson is a nice guy and all but i find him pretty bland and boring to be honest and mcclory isnt much better. Then you have Nicky Piper and his mo just seems to be agreeing with the general consesus and not thinking for himself!Barry mcguigan is another guy i like as a commentator and as the main commentator i quite like John Rawling.

I think Watt has had his day, as has been said by a few, he's far too negative about fighters and has been badly wrong in a lot of recent fights.

jim watt is very knowledgeable & astute but i agree over the recent year's he's become the nag :!: after 2rds he's complaining how poor someone is doing rather then how good the other is doing.

i think he's a gent & a true boxing man, i think he lost he's young boy in a tragedy 20 years ago i believe & i respect him for being so together.
but sadly i mute him alot, as his negativity & constant moaning jar's me. it's why alan hansen aint allowed to do commentry :!:
irish i have to mute him when you fight :DD :!: have you shagged his wife??

Jim Watt is the best commentator SKY have ever had. He knows his stuff and talks atraight. Great fighter, great commentator.

Other guys Id like to see in the studio.

Steve Collins

Kevin Lueshing

and Adrian Dodson was always a good talker, perhaps one of the finest.
Spend 5 minutes in SRL's company and you end up almost begging for more stories on his career! It's one of the best careers in

im sorry i didnt put it correctly im basing my comments on the hbo srl commentries of the mid and late 80s when he was out of boxing but never stopped talking as if he was still in boxing.im not basing what i said on sugar as a boxer or man outside the ring You see i was watching tyson tucker last night and srl was annoying in his commentary.
He is a totally different style outside the ring the . for the record sugar is one of my favourites an incredible man still stylish and charasmatic. He did it all and is just 100's of levels higher than a mayweather. The guys style was so cool. I think of 1986 and tv shows like miami vice, movies like cobra, rocky 4, predator, and sugar ray announcing his comeback!

I generally like the Sky team as people, they are all great guys, got a lot of respect for them all as ex-boxers and they are all very level headed nice people. But Jim Watt does grate on me, he whines on too much, if he stopped whining as much I actually think most the other times I don't mind his commentary too much. I also don't generally like the way Sky tend to side with one fighter too much and then it's like watching it with an annoying fan at times cos they are completly over-selling how one of the fighters is doing.

yeah they're all nice guys but at the same time genuine grade 1 hardmen...who rose to the top in a hard hard business....that takes character... Id just like to see more of that character and pride on display .... To see them allowed to have more of an opinion or to express more of an opinion on sky. I mean the football pundits do it but seems to me like no one wants to criticise anything for fear of losing a packet when it comes to the boxing.

Ian Darke is a plank! His boxing knowledge is mediocre at best.Even during commentary he constantly defers to jim watt because he doesnt know much!
