I don't know how Farnell gets on in the gym , but I'm prepared to accept the comments of others who have . However , his corner work , and its not only last night , has to improve .
He could do worse than follow the example of the late Terry Lawless . His actions in the corner never altered no matter who the fighter was or what had transpired during the previous round .
It went like this ;
1 Get the fighter down on the stool and take the gumshield out
2 Dry him off and get the towel round his neck and shoulders
3 Give him a quick drink and let him spit it out .
4 Now that his breathing has settled a bit there is a chance he'll be able to concentrate on what your going to say
5 Quietly , and briefly , tell him what you want him to do and make sure he understands .
6 Another wipe down with the towel , get him on his feet and shove in the gumshield
JOB DONE

......... and please note , no swimming pool left behind in the corner !!!!

farnell is an absolute class trainer no ifs no buts!

are people forgetting that bellew had only ever gone 6 rounds once before, and went the full 12 rounds because arnie had him in tip top condition,

ajisafe was a an awkward customer he fought a good fight he caused bellew a few problems but bellew come through and will only get better and will have learnt some valuable lessons.

i know the type of professional arnie is and trust me when i say he will get bellew back in that gym and go over that tape a houndred times with bellew and see where they went wrong.

bellew is his own worst critic and he will be very disappointed with his over all performance but he still won and showed heart to get off the floor and come right back, also he can tick the 12 rounds box,

i know for an absolute 1 billion percent fact that bellew will come back 10 times better and 10 times more determined

Absolute disgrace slaggin arnie. He's a brilliant young coach. I've seen him training his boxers countless times and they respect him so much, he lives for boxing always learning new techniques, amazing on the pads aswell. As bomber said it was his fault not arnies, he didn't listen what can arnie do if he's not gonna listen. Bomber will learn he's to dedicated not to.

And for Tommy Gunn 13. U say bomber and Gavin were great amateurs before they went with arnie. Bomber had 1 bad performance and frankie has looked amazing so that's a very stupid comment.

Anyone else feel that, or am I being harsh?
arnie is a very dedicated coach ,iv been in his gym bringing lads to spar with frankie and bellew , and after sparin he is straight in the ring padding his boxers and although arnie was a fighter he is very boxer minded and technicly good when workin with the likes of frankie gavin who is a tricky southpaw, just because his boxer didn't put in a tip top performance every one seems to be on to him,he still won easy and if u can win easy by not boxing well u hav e something to work on and I'm sure arni will be doin that.

I'm a teacher - similar job to a boxing trainer I suppose, and I know you don't get brillant at this job without experience. From what I can see is that Anthony Farnell is probably one of the best young trainers in the world of boxing, never mind this country. To compare him to Dean Powell is a bit unfair - how long has Dean Powell been in the game - 25 years or thereabouts? Young Anthony has made leaps and bounds in a very short space of time and he is only going to get better. He is also getting more handsome with age, I don't why I mentioned that except for the fact I watched the 'Magnificent seven' show and thought he is a good looking chap - it might be the glasses that suit him!

So, Tony Bellew had an off night - all boxers do - from Clay-Doug Jones and Tyson-Blood Green to Tony Bellew- Bob Ajisafe, to lamp it all on the trainer and call him crap is unfair.

No if u read it right wot im saying is,they were both succesful amateurs&went to Arnie with plenty of am experiance..Im just wondering if he could take a boxer with no experiance to get them to a decent title level as a pro....

He should take a leaf out of Tony Jeffries book and get a top American trainer and relocate and live the hard life because he has potential but if he keeps going the way he is going I can't see his potential being realized.

Just to be clear, I've no doubt he is dedicated and professional. No doubts about that.

I've had a beer with Arnie and his boys when they went out to support Crolla in Germany. The one thing that stood out then, and is apparent now is the very close relationship he has with his team. He's like their big brother it seems from the outside.

So I'm still itching a scratch here ok, but it reminds a bit of the Steve McClaren England set-up. Respected young coach, very close to his players "Stevo... Lamps... Rio..etc etc"

There's a point where being too matey in the gym doesn't cut deep enough to aid evolution.

Don't respond to comments that you think are ridiculous because thats what some of the posters feed off on here, I think its good you are on here and post your opinions but I would advise you to keep your distance at times because you can turn very quickly from a hero to a villain.

To be fair mate he can reply to what he wants i dont see the big problem bomber had 1 shit night most boxers do, people forget Cleverly had a shit performance against Vegas in his 11th fight and look how hes come on now and Bob is better than Vegas was then. And for Tommy Gunn 13 ive seen him with Ronnie Heffron and Paul Butler both i think 1 time ABA champions and he has brought them on leaps and bounds.

bellew in his last few fights before ajisafe has shown world class skills and power. what have you been smoking? :o
he beat atoli moore who im not saying was a good fighter but he k.od him in 1 round and got hit less than 3 times. his fight before that he fought velecky his best opponent to date, who the previous fight went the full distance with the previous super middleweight world champion and bellew k.od him in 1 round what more would you have him do???????????????????

its farnell that has got him where he is today . bellew had an off night and was loading up too much due to ajisafes awkwardness, he will learn from it and you can bet your a55 arnie will iron out all those mistakes and give bellew a kick up the back side

bellew and farnell have a great relation ship they both have respect for one another and know exactly what there job is. who are you to tell 2 proffessionals what they should or shouldnt do? what are your credentials.

come back when you know anything about the sport, farnell has forgotten more than you will ever know :D

As stated by Tony Bellew theres not a thing a coach can do if the fighter doesn't listen to you in the corner, very naive on Tony's part and you can be sure he'll learn from it.I've seen Arnie in the gym and spoke to him countless times and he's a class act who without a shadow of a doubt will become one of the UK's top coaches.IMO Frankie Gavin was the class act on the Birmingham show maybe Arnies doubters should watch that fight and see how well he boxed, moved and his punch accuracey simply class and worthy of loads of praise. All the best to Arnie and the lads in his gym all top lads! :bag:

I think Arnie is doing a great job with Tony. As Tony himself says, he blames himself for the performance and he is his own worst critic. I was there supporting Tony and he was very cut up about the performance. But I was telling him that everyone has a bad day in the office and Tony is much better than that fight and he will show it in his next fight

I don't want to get into the pro's and con's of Farnell as a coach - I aint seen him in action, so I aint judging. But I'm not sure having a good stable of fighters automatically assumes a good coach. I don't want to tempt fate, but I think the main quality of a good coach is seeing how many fighters REMAIN with him after they step up to CLOSE to their potential.

Please, anyone associated with Farnell, that's not intended to be person or disrespectful I'm just picking a hole in the arguement that getting a good punch of prospects isn't what makes a good coach. I sincerely hope Frankie, Tony and the rest stick with Farnell as get as far as their massive potential will take them.

Back in 1990 Pepe Correra had an Olympic Gold Medialist signed up with massive potential (eventually fulfilled) and also had one the top #5 P4P fighters at the time. He will never go down as a particularly good coach. Same with the late Oscar Suarez. Robert McCraken inherited some of Britain's best prospects in 2002 - doesn't automatically mean he was the best young coach in the world.

Well I didn't mean any offence, was merely stating my opinion. I don't understand how bomber has shown "world class skills" already in his career either but I suppose thats a matter of opinion. We all agree that it was a lousy showing by bomber bellew and the trainer takes some blame too. Bomber said he just wasn't listening to Farnell.. that tells it all. If Freddy Roach was in his corner do you think he would be listening? Have a look at Khan in the corner every time Roach opens his mouth... Khan is like a student in a classroom taking everything in. Time will tell but if Bellew wants to go on to world honours, I think he will have to move on from Farnell. Just my opinion hbut we will see in time. personally, after a showing like that, world honours look very far away indeed.

@carlos

Outside of prominent individuals (i.e Steward-Klitschko, Manny- Roach) etc I couldnt name you any trainers stable.

Isn't the quality of trainer determined by the improvements they have made to the fighters in their stable. What is Frankie Gavin doing better now then we he started. Likewise with Bellew and whoever else is in his stable

That to me is how you determine quality of trainer
