We might not agree on this one, but I'd hope you'd agree that I'm never aggressive towards you in this regard.
The crucial point that I have to keep on reiterating is that my frustration is borne out of the fact that unlike some, I actually think Lee is capable of something. I also think he is very easy to market as fighters go, so the way his career is currently being handled is immensely frustrating on both counts.

no, what I am saying is that "I know something you dont know" with regards the reason for these fights.
There is method to the madness!

This fight is ridiculous and a slap in the face to all his fans. Why does he need to keep busy when he had a fight 2 weeks ago? He is not a prospect, surely he is better biding his time and fighting meaningful fights rather than fighting this guy. What if he picks up and injury or if he gets careless and this guy lands a lucky punch and then his record is shot to shit and he has been beat by two poor fighters.
And for all you defending this fight, you should be ashamed of yourself! Its all well and good supporting a fighter but fights like this are what is wrong with boxing, fans paying out for a glorified sparing session.
I for one hopes this guy pulls off a shock and ko's Lee, it will serve his promoters right.

Ah sorry, misinterpreted your comment. I know you said this some time ago and there's clearly a big fight in the offing, but my concern is that this type of match is woefully inadequate preparation if he is indeed going to step up.

they are better then sparring to be honest and Lee prepares properly for all his fights so this malarky doesnt worry me

yeah, after his victory over Anthony Shuler all Lee's fans in Hammond, Indiana have already turned their back on the Limerickman!
The guys at the casino are shelling out the grand sum of $10 - or £6.40 in our wonderful sterling. I am sure there will be a riot if there is an early stoppage!

Lowry's form line and age tells me all I need to know about how much faith Steward has in his charge.
You can gloss over the facts in anyway you want - even if he has a multi million pound world title shot in the pipeline - the recent match making for Andy Lee tells me his people aren't sold on his ability to consistently win in good class.
And this view is coming from a natural Andy Lee fan, not a 'hater' or someone looking to wind people up.
I hope Lee proves me wrong, I really do, but where were these sort of matches in the fistic education of the Motor City Cobra?...

But you're missing my point - it is not a choice between these fights or sparring, it should be a choice between these fights or different fights against better opponents that will allow him to continue his fistic education.
And you can't seriously believe that Lee will be preparing for this in the same way as if he was facing a stronger opponent - there's no way he'll mentally be able to get up for it in the same way.
Terry's hit the nail on the head - all these fights represent is a lack of belief in him from his management team.

STFU and stop whining. It's better for him to stay active than to become stagnant in the gym. It keeps him motivated and in shape and gives him a few quid in his pocket to boot. I'm sure if they could have got a better guy on such short notice they would have.
Funny how when someone likes a boxer, they will defend him fighting a 40yo, 0-5 in five fights, LKO1 in his last fight, opponent because it allows him to "stay busy", yet when the likes of the Klitschkos or Haye fight someone less than Godzilla, the guns are drawn.

Klitschkos and Haye are world champions and need to act like one or lose respect from the fans. Andy is a contender who nobody rates outside the irish to even lift a title so i dont quite get the interest in him when he fights a nobody to pad his record like all contenders do at different stages in their career. Was this really thread worthy since Andy is never going to win anything?

But just over a month ago on the same subject:
ImElvis666 wrote:. Fighting nobodies is not doing his development any favours. We all saw what happened to Jacobs when he took the big step up. Lee needs to fight a borderline contender a.s.a.p. Someone like Lajuan Simon, Craig McEwan, Proska.

Andy Lee, the man with a limited plan, continues to feast on pathetic American Midwest opposition over in the States as he builds to an all-Ireland middleweight slop-out with John Duddy (according to Mickey Mouse sources), but he will gain absolutely nothing from his 10-rounder with hicktowner Troy Lowry in a hicktown called Hammond, Indiana, on Saturday night.
Frankly, this match stinks. While Lee’s Limerick compatriot, the 10-fight Willie Casey, takes a 'real' fight in November against Spanish threat Kiko Martinez, while the glass-jawed Amir Khan takes a real fight in December against Argentine threat Marcos Maidana, southpaw Lee faces a 40-year-old "Okie from Muskogee" who has been stopped in his last four contests and who everyone in the world knows is going to lose this weekend. What kind of a boxing contest is that? The frightening thing is Lowry could also get hurt, and Lee’s increasingly out-of-touch mentor Manny Steward should be thoroughly ashamed of himself. Boxing really does make it easy for the abolitionists at times.
The big, heavy handed Lee, 23-1 (17), has won his last eight fights since he was stopped in seven glaring rounds by Texan Brian Vera in 2008 and is the greatest 'on top' fighter in the business but he scrambles for boxing instinct against anyone with the gall to hit back. Why else are they picking an opponent for him like Lowry (and before Lowry the equally limited likes of James Cook and Michael Walker)?
You know, Lee would get a better fight if he spilt somebody's pint in Fitzgerald’s in Limerick than he will fighting Lowry. It won't be competitive and it won't be pretty.

No actually I think you are missing the point.
He fought two weeks ago, if this was his only fight of the year (or even six months) then fair enough but it aint.
No one is going to defend this fight as a credible contest, that is why I refer to it as a glorified bout of sparring. The only difference is that he pays for his gym sparring but is getting paid for this one.
The only way Troy can win is by knockout, he isnt going to outbox Lee, and poor ould Troy aint had a KO win in 10 years.
His management team have offered Brian Vera a rematch on three separate occasions now - each time for more money than he got fir their first match and more money than he got for taking other subsequent fights in which he was beaten. Lee is also sitting on the subs bench for a world title fight so that hard screams of a lack of confidence.
Of course this isnt going to teach him much new in comparison to a Proska, Pirog or Duddy fight, but every bout is a learning experience and he will be able to take something from it and he is keeping in the gym, keeping fighting and ready for a shot if/when it does drop.
Between March 2008 and March 2009 he only had one fight. I would be more worried about a lack of activity rather than this activity.

No it doesn't! When Frank Bruno fought the likes of Chuck Gardner and Reggie Gross it hindered his progress and Bruno lost confidence fighting these men knowing that his managment didn't believe in him enough to put him in with someone half decent - so when he ended up fighting the likes of Tyson - he lost the fight before he got in the ring.
Every time a critique of Lee or another Irish boxer comes up - Boxrecs own IRA (Irish Remedial Army) come up swinging, even if they know our critique has gravitas.
And I am not biased against the Irish - even some of my best mates have Irish friends!
