demolitiondaley wrote:Hi guys, a bit of an update for you on my boxing. I fought Shane McPhilbin on Saturday and weighed in a 1/4lb under the championship limit Shane came in about half a stone heavier. We had a cracking fight and I would say it was my best technical performance ever. My defence was tight and I pressured him the whole way landing good scoring shots and nicking points on the ref's scorecard. I lost by a wide margin but overall it was a close competitive match-up and Shane who has been a good amateur fighting the likes of Tyson Fury said it was his toughest win as a pro and he was shocked because he thought he was going to be in for an easy nights work. My coach Johnney Roye was very happy with my improvements and it is to him that I owe all my technical improvements due to him taking me under his wing, giving me loads of pad-work and even going as far as to spar me which to my mind is the greatest privilege a retired fighter can give his student. The man has taken enough lumps as an international amateur and a world champion Muay-Thai boxer. I'm in the gym everyday now I have left the Police and work there full-time teaching amateurs and doing personal fitness training. I didn't leave the Police for boxing but because it was to demanding on my family life and I am in a better position to look after my son self-employed. I'm fighting in Preston on the 28th of May at Lava and Ignite opponent to be confirmed but I'd like to fight Lee Kellet like it was was supposed to be on the last show when he didn't get his medicals sorted in time. We'll see anyway and keep you all posted, I haven't been on here as much recently due to me not being sat in the training office at the Police station wasting time on the police computer ha ha

Glad you're seeing the improvements in the ring that your hard work deserves. Keep us updated and Good Luck!
Glad to hear you've got a proper job now Howard!

This sort of attitude and spirit should be greatly encouraged within the sport.
Let's hope the board are as favourable as most in this thread seem to be.
Good luck

If you continue to lose fights will they take your license away? Why did they take it away last time? No malice involved and I'm not trying to be argumentative, just asking like.

i think it was a case of Howad being too game for his own good moe than anything else if you look at his record it just looks like his a journeyman but in his eyes he went into every fight thinking he could win and fought for every second of every round trying his hardest to win even if it meant getting chinned where as most would just take the safety route and fiddle there way through Howads a top bloke and fair play to him for losing the weight and giving it another go it would be nice for him to get a win or two but as long as his not getting hurt. which since he came back he doesnt seem to be doing then good on him for having a pop. i just hope he has good management aound him so that if things dont turn aound then they tell him so
Good post Billy

Thanks Billy you are spot on and with regards to the board they are only bothered if I'm getting hurt which in my last two fights was never an issue and they were against lads who outclassed me. Give me a 50/50 now and I'll give you a win

There is an area/masters title with my name on it. I'm not ready to throw the towel in. The long term effects on my health? Before I took up boxing I was a 20st heart attack waiting to happen. I think boxing has probably added 10-20years to my life. I'm in the best shape of my life and I now how the tools to be competative and survive without taking punishment.
