Crolla has improved considerably since the Sykes fight. I remember chatting to the late Darren Sutherland at the Crolla v Sykes fight and we thought Crolla was throwing just as many punches as Sykes but he was not stepping in to his punches. Therefore Sykes was landing the more telling punches. However, Crolla throws his punches with a bit more purpose now. I would love to see a rematch.

i agree, they will want burns, who stood up to the biggest puncher in the division but got beaten by the best domestic fighters of the time.

bet foster will have to go mando route.

foster (EBU) and burns (WBO) will be a tremendous motivator for sykes and crolla.

Crolla seemed to be hunting him down with a tight guard either planning a a knockout punch (not sure he can rely on this) or a test of stamina and stepping things up from the 5th. (Risky strategy but maybe this was his best option given the skills comparison)
.
no, i don't think he was going for a KO punch, at all. he wasn't loading up on shots in the slightest. a commitment to a body attack would suggest differently in any case. Morris' speed of hand and foot were compromised by his wasted energies. all those flurries, sorry to state the obvious, only do you any good if you can last the course, and Morris barely made it past halfway. Crolla was going what McCallum di at 154. stay in the pocket, wear the man down with counters to the body, and step up attack when he weakens.

IMO that was a strategic masterclass from Crolla, and check the RBR on the fight, a few people were saying even thoguh Crolla was down on points he was taking over the fight momentum-wise.

yup. Crolla's punches are basically tighter than Sykes who loops them quite frequently. i think Crolla was slightly outworked by Sykes but if he hadn't been quite so skittish on his feet against Sykes- ironically exactly the failing that I think Morris had last night- he would have seen more results from his shots i am sure.

i think crolla put too much into the first 5 rds with sykes, trading with a stronger and more physcally mature fighter & inevitably getting worn down.

reckon he will have to give more ground in the rematch, pick his moments. apply some pressure, beat his man to the punch but don't hang around for the replies.

Great win for Crolla but we surely need to keep a lid on the world title chat for just now, it's only about the 3rd fighter he's beaten with a winning record (and one of them was an old Michael Brodie). Fana/Burns?? - he's got to prove himself against the like of Sykes or Foster first.

Certainly not saying that Burns necessarily deserved the shot at the WBO belt, but that's no reason for every British fighter with one good win to get a crack.

That aside, great win and huge congratulations - I look forward to seeing some great domestic clashes off the back of this with the winner of these battles moving on towards a title shot. :box:

he does have a great learning curve ahead.

i give him a very good chance of beating sykes, though i reckon it will be hard.

he is very young, with big promise. bet no one wants to rush him as he's just had a hard fight, and was probably put in a bit too early in the first sykes fight, and we saw what happened there. all the same foster and burns have been beaten by good brits, so i'm sure crolla's ppl have plenty to look forward to.

ppl are bringing up mike mccallum having seen crolla's economical and smart style of boxing.

another fight that comes to mind:

jhonny gonzalez's stoppage of jackson asiku from a few weeks ago. gonzalez was very poised, and his lead left hook was also a major factor in the outcome of that fight. jackson was really scrambled by those left hooks to the head and jhonny dug the body brutally also.
