I wouldn't say Earl was clearly shot at all. He took a pasting from Katsidis but almost won the fight himself with several bombs.

I don't think anyone on here at the time was overly concerned Earl was shot and shouldn't fight Khan. Maybe I'm wrong, but the majority - from what I seem to remember - thought it would be a big test for Khan.

These two defeats should have seen him hang up his gloves, and the Castle fight was one too many IMO. At least he ended on a win.

A lot of people just don't want to give Khan any props, power or no power.
I don't understand your point. You're talking about the thoughts of people prior to the fight whereas I'm talking about what we clearly know now with hindsight, which was that the Katsidis fight finished Earl and it was a shell of a prime Earl in the ring with Khan, hence it not being a great benchmark with regards to assessing Khan's power. What I and others thought about the match beforehand is utterly irrelevant.
And I really don't understand your final line given I made a specific point of opening my post by stating that I think Khan will beat Maidana precisely because I wanted to avoid any inaccurate accusations that I'm not prepared to give Khan props.

It always amazes me how posters on forums can't grasp the above point.

A great example is Calzaghe vs Lacy. Looking at Lacy now, we know how poor he was. He lost to Taylor/KO'd by old RJJ/barely got by Vitali Typsko, Otis Griffin and Epifanio Mendoza (needing a majority decision against all).

Khan is young and not a great speaker. He says silly things from time to time but who doesn't?

He certainly hits hard enough I think, he has already proved that. Malignaggi for all his posturing and nancy hair do's is a very tough man. Khan hurt him plenty.

He has enough power to get where he wants to go in the sport. I think he will hit Maidana so many times he will think he is fighting 3 fighters. I really think Khan is going to take him apart.

Maidana's a puncher but I don't think he's all he's made out to be... I mean, a life and death struggle against Chop Chop who, if I'm correct, got flattened in his previous fight suggests he's not quite the devastating banger he's made out to be.

Khan will look sensational in this fight, believe me.

I never said you, I said 'people' and then went on to agree with you that he would beat Maidana over 12. If I thought Khan was a HUGE puncher I'd be predicting a KO wouldn't I?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Khan destroyed Earl in 70+ seconds. Of course some of the damage had been done previously, but I don't believe it was to the extent that he was completely "shot"....

The same goes for Calzaghe, as someone mentioned. About 80% of posters had Calzaghe losing that, if they're honest. He destroyed Lacy and now people are talking about lacy as if he was a bum.....

If 'people' looked at the bigger picture all along they wouldn't sway so violently in the aftermath...

As for hindsight, yes it is a wonderful thing, as it allows you to place things in historical perspective and context... and in the case of Earl you seem to be an army of one in believing that the Earl who faced Khan wasn't 'shot'.

Well Amir Khan has stopped 17 stoppage wins out of 23 wins he has had in his career to date. So he has got some dig in his punches to go with the blinding handspeed that caught everyone's attention when he first burst on the scene at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and then turned professional afterwards. As I am reading his comments claiming he is a big puncher is just giving himself plenty of confidence and warning Marcos Maidana of the threat that he will pose to him. Do I think he is a big puncher, probably not, but he does use positive aggression and constant pressure throwing plenty of good combinations that will attract the judges eyes and hopefully scores the knockouts that he wants.

As for his technique I am sure the more he trains with Freddie Roach and spar with Manny Pacquiao his techinque with the upper cuts and hooks sharpen up with time, because he is young and he will continue to get better.

I think Khan stops Maidana around the 6th to the 10th, but i think his game plan will be to not get involved obviously. His hand speed and accuracy is too good..

There is your answer from a man who has been punched by Khan. Overwhelming puncher!

Its one of those fights - Khan should win but with his chin and maidana's power theres a glaring equaliser. I Think in theory khan should take maidana to school but it could all go titts up.

Apart from Salita and Earl, but i think thats speed and accuracy mixed with respectable power rather than outright punch power. Like people have said.

Personally i think Maidana does hit very hard!Yes he had a poor performance against Corley but he looked out of shape in that fight and yet he still floored corley with a huge right hand in the fight. Also Corley overrall is a pretty durable fighter.

I know some people think that Maidana has a bad chin aswell but im not buying that!Yes he was floored 3 times by Ortiz in there fight but Ortiz has some serious power and broke vivian harris's jaw if im correct? Also the 3 knockdowns he suffered against Ortiz were all shots that landed absolutely flush on maidana's jaw! Also they all came from right hooks if im correct and Ortiz is a natural right hander who fights as a southpaw.Anyway aside from all that even though he got put down 3 times he still got up strongly and went onto to make ortiz quit.Thats a dangerous fighter!

"Khan claims he's a big puncher"

Why not start one with a little praise for a British world champion? Then again, that would never happen on Boxrec these days......instead let's pick on the things we can criticise him for.

PS I'm an army of one who doesn't jump on the bandwagon after a fight.

People on here gave Earl a shot at beating Khan, so what of them? I am one of those who thought Khan would beat him easily, but still....

Ortiz did that to him, and he hasn't been in with anyone close to as good as Khan.
Ortiz hits harder than khan though!Im convinced of that!

Ortiz may well hit harder than Khan, but Khan will hit Maidana 3 times as often!

I'm looking forward to this fight, I see it as the fight where Khan makes everyone know he has arrived at world level(although the Malignaggi fight should have done that)

Fella, you seem to be just rambling now after your previous assertions were dealt with.
Right, so now my crime is not that I'm a Khan hater, but rather that I'm posting a negative comment about him that is acting as 'fuel' for the haters. This is a fascinating approach coming from a journalist - you're basically saying I should be posting positive comments rather than pulling someone up on making inflated claims... I can see your editor having the same approach when it comes to news-gathering - 'No, let's not do anything on the local MP claiming something that the evidence doesn't support, let's instead focus on stories of how he's doing good things for the local community'.
And you keep on rambling on about people's opinions pre-fight regarding Khan and Earl - why can't you grasp that it's utterly irrelevant to what we're talking about? You asserted that Khan's blow-out of Earl was evidence of his power, pretty much everyone else has said it's not a good example as Earl was clearly a shell of his former self. End of.

You are looking way to much into this and seem to have way too much time on your hands.

Every post you've made in response to mine has been your take on what I'm thinking, rather than sitting down and reading it in black and white!

When have I rambled? I made my points, you don't seem to be able to grasp that I disagree with you and what has my profession got to do with it? If you want to call me and speak to me about my journalistic integrity feel free, you know nothing about me. All I asked for was a little balance and I never accused you of anything.

This isn't about you, it's about Amir Khan.

All I said is that Khan flattened Earl and I didn't believe Earl was "shot" at the time. I know damage had been done but "shot" is a very strong term.

I've not made Khan out to be some monster puncher because I don't believe he is so wind your neck in and move on to someone else rather than trying to second guess me when you still seem puzzled by my initial comments.

And I never described you as a "hater"...or said you were guilty of "a crime"......calm down dear, you're one of the posters I usually agree with :)

You and I disagree. I take your points on board and respect your opinion, so kindly respect mine.

Ta ta.....
