i think unfortunately unless kevin bulks up some how, he just looks like one of those fighters who is between weights, too big for SF and too small for LW.

I mean, Fwanky got a hell of a lot of big name prospects involved(and the likes of Danny WIlliams) to help shift tickets for Mitchell-Katsidis in my opinion.

Before that he was never really a big draw and he never really beat a top fighter, Prescott since Khan and before Khan has nothing at all to shout about. As time passes it seems Prescott just hit the jackpot that night.

Mitchell is a good fighter of course, good to watch and he can come again. I don't see no problems with him starting a few rungs down the ladder again either. It's what should happen. The only guys that go from title loss to fighting at a similar level are those that have been floating around the top level for a while and even then, none would go staright back in at the top level after being battered like Kevin was against Katsidis.

It's all about levels. Just because it's clear he won't reach the very top doesn't mean he can't have a damn fine career and earn a fair whack in the process...surely the railways can wait for a few years?
30-0 was blew up enough. Beating what turned out to be an over-rated Prescott did not help. Best at SF, if he wants it bad enough, he will make the weight.

Former world title challenger Kevin Mitchell is still waiting for the go ahead to box again.

The WBO lightweight title contender - who lost against Michael Katsidis in May - complained of an eye problem after the fight.

Mitchell is hoping to be back in action by the end of the year, subject to medical approval.
Just found this on Warren's site.

we'd all love to see that fight pal but why would Murray take that now unless it was a World Title defence and Mitchell had worked his way up the rankings? It's the obvious fight for the public but as you know yourself, the question is does it make business sense with the way their careers are on different trajectories now? Murray's camp seemed to make noises about Mitchell getting opportunities before Murray did, so whether they'll feel like giving Mitchell an opportunity now that Murray is finally getting a sniff of big fights is unlikely wouldn't you think?

I agree with most of your points mate, 1 thing I will say is that if it makes business sense which it does then it'll happen, I could see Murray Vs Mitchell as a final eliminator for a WBO world title or something along them lines... If Murray signs with Frank you can say 1 thing is for sure, BIG FIGHTS ahead for him in BIG ARENA's I think.. I think Murray would be happy to face Mitchell too to be honest mate, I don't think he's had a huge domestic showdown and I think them fights appeal to all fighters, It certainly appeals to me and almost everyone else.. I will agree with you on things such as there careers are going different ways but 1 meeting can change all that mate... :TU:

Murry would pick up some major support facing Mitchell should he win. I think there is more fan potential with Murray. Fans = money!

A comeback fight against someone like youssef al-hamidi then a Britah title shot against the winner of Watson-Rees

true, and i always saw this being a potentially important/exciting fight. however a lot of the appeal has gone out of it, at least for the time being. one impressive showing by mitchell would have put the fight in the right direction, but he's not able to fight arthur...

Where on earth does Kevin Mitchell go from here?

Either Bethnal green or York hall because Upton park was to big a stage for the lad.

Wouldn't be surprised if F Warren sets him up with someone who's fought at world level, but is on the wane. Someone like Rocky Juarez would be ideal, just as Fagan and then Barrera were for Khan when he was rebuilding his reputation. He may well be given a dolly fight first, though.

With the right approach (in & outside the ring), ie not trying to go toe-to-toe with proven world level fighters like Katsidis, I still feel Mitchell has something to offer on the world stage.

It still baffles me to this day why he went looking for a tear up with Katsidis. Surely Jimmy Tibbs knew better?

Because he believed in his own hype when everyone from here to china had known he was a european level fighter at best. The Prescott win was good but he wasn't a great fighter he was just a big hitter.

One defeat to a proven world level fighter and he's European level at best?

What was Khan when Prescott knocked him out then, Commonwealth level at best?

Mitchell has good skills and good power. The Katsidis stoppage might actually work out to be a good reality check for him in the long run.

I don't get that too, particularly after he fought such a tactically astute fight with Prescott. The occasion was maybe too much for him and all the rumoured lack of preparation etc, but it seemed a bizarre way to chuck away all those years of hard work. If he'd have at least given Katsidis a few rounds and stayed with him, it wouldn't seem such a huge defeat.

he didn't go looking for it, IMO

he just didn't have the skills to make Katsidis fight him another way. kats threw him off in the first round by making him come to him, then as soon as there was contact, katsidis just monstered Mitchell.

Murray doesn't need him now and will have bigger fish to fry. Is he even back in training?

I feel for the lad, his performance against Prescott was punch perfect and he went a long time and a lot of fights unbeaten and came unstuck against a beast in Katsidis, though he was underprepared and fought the wrong fight.

Seems a good lad in all his interviews etc. I hope he gets a 2nd wind
It was as heartbreaking a loss as Ive seen. To get butchered like that in front of 20,000 of your own supporters in your local turf in such a celebratory fashion. I really think the requirement these days for dancing girls, rappers and baloons to accompany a boxers entrance these days is not for every boxer......clearly it isnt Kevins style....and it got to him.......wheras a Katsides who may only have been a few years older but looks far older more grizzled more used to it next to the baby faced Mitchell..............LOOK MItchell is a fantastic talent and a great kid he can really fight...and i firmly beleive he will go back to the drawing board and come back strog....he took on a guy many others wouldnt in Katsidis ....Nigel Benn suffered a loss to Watson and came back I think Kevin can if he can overcome his demons
Good post :TU:

He was just totally overwhelmed by the occasion i think and on the night totally overwhelmed by the better fighter. It was a perfect stoppage another 10-20 seconds he coulda bin seriously hurt. Hope he bounces back he's a good fighter i'd like to see him at european level see how he fares.
