So he'd f*k up Yafai heh. I'd like to see him try. Credit to Harry for the win. It was a very close fight and a fair decision. Please don't turn this into another Amir Hate thread. This one's about his baby bro.G0mez wrote:

I hope Harry takes a different PR path to his big bro.
Re: Haroon Khan beats Selby and puts the cat among the pigeons
Good luck to the kid, must have been a sweet moment for him. Hopefully this puts the issue to rest and in future the focus of attention is on his career rather than selection dramas.
Re: Haroon Khan beats Selby and puts the cat among the pigeons
I know I ask this all the time but why? Seriously, why do people, especially a multi millionaire sportsman feel the need to rant off on some internet nutty thing? It drives me mad it does, I was in the pub with my mate the other day and he got his phone out and said "I'm just going to update my facebook and twitter" he seemed quite offended at me rolling all over the floor laughing my tits off.G0mez wrote:Absolutely it's his account. I'd be out on the piss if I was Khan not tapping away on a keyboard "Harry done it innit, beat a GB innit, GB beat other GB innit, Bob don't know nuttin innit"

Spot on.sg1985 wrote:Listened to Steve Bunce's podcast last night, he mentioned that Khan had been losing and the lads picked kept winning, it's not really hard to see why he wasn't picked. How could they turn round and tell lads who were winning trophies and medals you're not going because Amir's brother fancies to go, he'd have been a shoe in by the time the Olympics came around in London, he can't compete for us now can he?
I get the feeling Khan is really gonna rub it in everyone's faces that he 'beat the brits' when no1 Yafai wasn't even in the country.

Well due to his religion Khan's unlikley to be on the piss. This doesn't stop him sending naked pictured of himself and offering to 'torture' girls howeverbanjo wrote:I know I ask this all the time but why? I know a Muslim who regularly comes out on the piss with us, the qu'ran doesn't actually state that you can't drink.

Well like most religious texts are severely ambiguous and contradictory; but most Mulsims agree that intoxication of any kind is not allowed.banjo wrote:I know a Muslim who regularly comes out on the piss with us, the qu'ran doesn't actually state that you can't drink.
Despite your friend's actions, try going to speak to some imams and ask them if it's ok to drink. And remember that in some muslim counrties alcohol is prohibited and if a muslim consumed it he may face punishment

Haroon would not have been a shoe income 2012. Englands top boy is injured at the moment. Little Khan is decent but he is by no means his brother.
Spot on about the selection though. You pick the lads who win the major titles. Haroon didn't even get out of his area did he in the ABAs? Picking him would have caused more uproar than not picking him I assure you!

The Khans do have a point to some extent, there's a lot of bullshit politics going on behind the scenes as far as selection is concerned, however in this case, Haroon simply didn't deserve to go and Amir is making himself look stupid with the way he's reacting.
I also think Yafai would beat Khan 9 times out of 10 from what i've seen of them both

Re: Haroon Khan beats Selby and puts the cat among the pigeons
In their tiny minds the Khans believe their is some sort of McCracken vendetta, given his association with Froch (plus Hennessy e.g. Thaxton , Murray).
Rob is one of the coolest people in the game. His temperament sets him apart from most and along with his coaching ability, made him first choice to head up the team.
"The England selectors didn't pick my brother.. but guess what he is in the quarter-finals and the English boxer is OUT."
tweeted Amir.
Harooon has taken a pot shot again this evening, stating that beating the Brits was far more important than winning a medal. Hardly endearing to Pakistan.
"This is what I wanted to do - get a medal and beat a lad from the Great Britain podium squad. I've done that and proved them wrong. It [beating a Briton] is more important than the medal."
Wouldn't surprise me if they think that because Khalid is also from Birmingham, holds another factor in their minds.
Like Buncey says though, they cant put someone through on surname, when other lads have consistently out performed them all year and have thoroughly earned their spot on the squad.
It feels that originally, everyone was cool about Harooooon taking a vest for Pakistan. But they have taken a really good run of results and exposure and backfired it completely with their attitude and childishness.
As far as i'm concerned Suranjoy Mayengbam and Marcos Maidana will make my day if they bang the pair of them out now.

As I sort of alluded to in my piece, the way the tournament has gone gives the Khans legitimacy to their claims and the mandate to say their piece.
Of course, people with a bit more class not only would let the actions speak for themselves but certainly wouldn't rattle on like they have done.

Re: Haroon Khan beats Selby and puts the cat among the pigeons
Fair play to Haroon, he seems a very capable boxer. He hasn't done himself any favours at all with all the palaver. He doesn't seem to have his feet on the floor and does not come across as being a likable lad. I doubt there's a big conspiracy with Robert McCracken and the ABAE against Haroon. I can't imagine '... British Asians are going to take to the street and protest my outing' (The Observer; Sports Section 10/10/2010 p. 10). Haroon and his advisers ought to get out a bit more or keep to their medication.

I'm sure British Asians would do if they didn't have something called a life and felt that a young amateur boxer not making the English team for the Commonwealth Games was an injustice worth protesting.

Re: Haroon Khan beats Selby and puts the cat among the pigeons
The GB boxers and selectors should feel embarrassed. Even if the selection was justified, to lose to someone who wasn't deemed good enough at the big event shows a serious lack of bottle or preparation.
Re: Haroon Khan beats Selby and puts the cat among the pigeons
I can't go along with that. Haroon has boxed well and beat 2 lads on the squad. Upsets happen in boxing; a count back loss is not like losing by a great margin. It is like Haroon is already a superstar. Good on him for getting up in the medals; but come on; has he got a real grievance or is he is touch spoiled? He's taken himself out of the British squad and now boxes for Pakistan. (I would've thought that Stubbs' and Selbys' prior achievements and class (win or lose) put their bottle beyond questioning.)
Re: Haroon Khan beats Selby and puts the cat among the pigeons
It proves absolutely nothing. How these little tw*ts can start turning the newspapers and media against McCracken really sets me off.
McCracken is one of the very best we've had in a long while and took 3 silvers and a bronze from the Euro's just gone.
Tommy Stubbs moved up a weight to fill Yafai's vest following his withdrawal from 48kg up to 51g
Yafai was the youngest ever world champion for great Britian, has meddalled in absolutely every competion against very very stiff competition like Russia, Hungary, Germany, - not the flipping channel islands and and Tongo.
When he withdrew, Haroon was already in Pakistan and had made his declaration to fight for them many months prior.
IF Khalid Yafai was in the team instead of Stubbs, he would have taken out both Selby and Khan.
Yafai is a tidy operator.
That's the fact here, the GB #1 aint even here - and Khan is lucky he aint !
Little Tommy was beat on a count back, Selby was beaten on a countback - there's not a run of KO wins and a gold were talking about, they literally split hairs amongst them.
Also factor this, that in previous meetings Khan has came off worse against them. He's fell lucky with the results and fell lucky with Yafai being injured.
Proved a point? my hairy arse.

Re: Haroon Khan beats Selby and puts the cat among the pigeons
Khalid Yafai made a very valid point in an interview "He did well to beat Selby but I'd 100 per cent do a job on him. I'd love to fight Haroon back in England, but to be honest he'd just get hurt."
