i thought he could lose it in the tournament if he didn't do well. They said they would to Williams but ended up letting him pass the torch on in the ring

crolla is the bigger threat. kays might deserve his shot, but the one tme i saw him fight he was struggling with barrington brown, a fighter whom young joe murray was far more convincing against.

He got put down in the 5th rd that's only bit of struggle he add. He's improved tremendously over the last 18months complete different fighter n u 4get joe murray is a former olympic boxer who's 1 of the hottest prospects in boxing!

Hi Jon P ,
Do not know Adam from Adam but can confirm that Gary Sykes has a contract for his British Title defences and it is not as much as Adam seems to think.
With reference the Prizefighter entrance I can also confirm that I was not involved in the decision for Gary to enter.
Cheers

Well its defo not as much as the promoter has just said and you have to take into account that its only 9 rounds maximum and even with a loss he can still defend british afterwards ala danny williams so i think its a very good calculated gamble.

not fan boyish at all i think its an absolute fornicating liability that the british champion should be aloud in this competition he has got nothing to lose if he wins it he gets a nice cheque and if he loses he still gets a ncie cheque when he defends his british title again.. when people like crolla and jonny have warranted there shot at that title and now have to wait once again to have a shot at it.. surely he shouldnt be aloud to enter the board need to have a serious look at this its pathetic...

I think Sykes takes a massive gamble doing this, there's 4 kids there that
could beat him....
Saying that, he's never going to get £32k for a defence of the British at that weight, be it voluntary or mandatory so it's the money he is doing it for. Not that there's anything wrong with that either!
It still baffles me why people go nuts over Choi, though.
I'd be surprised if he gets past the opening round of fights in this.

Just read this news on the homepage! I am surprised Sykes is taking this gamble, but the money on offer is an obvious lure and of course the boost in profile would be good for him. But a loss in the tournament would be a real body blow to his credibility as British champ so there is big risk in this, especially considering their is some quality fighters in the line-up. On paper this is definitely the best prizefighter in terms of the standard of the participants.
Sykes was a very successful amateur and his high output style does seem suited to the format, so him and his camp will no doubt see this as a shrewd calculated risk where they'll obviously really fancy their chances. He will be the favourite and deservedly so imo....but its certainly a gamble and i give him plenty of respect for taking that gamble.
Really looking forward to this prizefighter. Its always been an exciting format, but in all honesty the standard of some of the fighters has been diabolical really. Think Hearn realised he needed to up the quality level if he wanted Prizefighter to keep its credibility and appeal....and he's certainly done that. These Super-feathers are all solid operators, should be very good!
I do wonder if perhaps in future the BBBC might look at the situation of British Champs taking part in Prizefighter, since it can make a bit of a mockery of the champs standing if he gets beat(as in the case with Danny Williams) But with the loot on offer being so lucrative, its understandable the fighters themselves generally seem keen to participate.

Nothing wrong with him, I'm sure he's a great fella. Personally I feel he had a good win over Derry and people jumped on the bandwagon. I just don't rate him as much as the 'cult' followers he has
Nothing personal at all, just my opinion.
You've said twice now that it was just 'in the gym' but a ring is a ring. I know things are different sometimes in sparring but generally, the boss in sparring is the boss in fights

The Matthews win is the most impressive on his record&might flatter him considering the losses Derry has had since.. As for the sparring ,some people look world beaters in the gym but can never fulfill the on fightnight but we shall see...Sykes,Choi&Matthews one of them will be the winner.

People need to take Prizefighter for what it is, a nights entertainment, a chance for the participants to earn some money, and a chance for the winner to push on further in there career.
A loss wouldn't be the end of the world for Sykes. Especially a loss in Prizefighter

Would be interested to know what weight this fighter is at and i very much doubt that most British champions get that whatever weight unless they are a big draw. I expect Paul gets more than average because he is a big draw. Somebody like Daws at light welter though probably gets much less
