Re: Paul Ingle

I would rate Ingle as one of the greatest British fighters of all time. He always impressed me.
I partially agree, although I think Manuel Medina had alot more left when he fought Naz, thank Junior Jones did against Ingle. Remember, Junior Jones had a major struggle against Richard Evatt before that, struggled against a shot Tracey Harris Patterson and then did nothing after. Manuel Medina went on to give Ingle all the trouble he could handle, beat Scott Harrison and win world titles on a few occasions for the best part of 10 years after the Hamed fight.tonyevs wrote:It could be argued, that Ingles win over Junior Jones was alot more impressive than any of Naz's wins..... Maybe not as spectacular, but for me, more impressive.
Naz made a reputation beating seriously shop-worn opponents. Junior Jones had more left than any name fighter Naz beat.
Absolutely - McMillan was class and had the bottle. His showing against Robinson and Ingle showed that also.Scrap wrote:Tommy Gun, after Palacio his left shoulder was knackered, the trouble happened 2 weeks before the Fight, I tried to pull Him. It was always coming out the shoulder, He had 3 operations on it, 2 weeks before Robinson it came out. He couldnt train as He should Have, that was the problem. Where making 9st wasnt a problem, it became one. I learned over time Colin certainly didnt lack Bottle. In the Irwin Fight, or I should say after, didnt like the look of Him and under protest got Him to the Hospital, after 2 hours the Doctor asked who had brought Him there, I said I did expecting a bollocking. The Doctor said well done another 4 hours He would have been Dead. Colin always gave everything He had.
Yeah, that must have been a real eye opener. Only thing is Robinson was still relatively untested at the upper echelons of top domestic class at that stage. No disrespect to Sean Murphy and John Davison, but both I think were past their best when they fought Steve for the world title. McMillan was Steve's first true world class opponent and I'm sure some people, even knowing McMillan was about 80% thought he would been too much for the relatively, at that level, unproven Welshman.bobmee wrote:I remember being at the rules meeting for the Robinson-McMillan fight and was surprised, not only to see Colin there - fighters don't normally bother - but that he wanted to get the message over to the referee that if he lay on the ropes not throwing many punches it wasn't a signal for him to stop the fight. If we weren't sure how his left shoulder was before that moment, we knew then. McMillan had so much skill but unless you had the power of a Hamed, which featherweights have, you couldn't beat a pressure fighter like Robinson one-handed.
AgreedTommy Gunn13 wrote:Dont get me wrong McMillan was a class boxer but who did he beat to gain such a high ranking in your eye Stecca was his best win...Hoko best win Villasana far aways that win, plus Hoko beat better fighters i do believe if he hadnt ran into a inform Vargas he would have batterd Robbo...perhaps im being a tad biased coz as a youngster i loved watching him....opinons please people....ps im not a scouser
