Yeah, crickey never thought I would say this - but he is missed now. Never good enough for the Klitchsko's, but a good little fighter who could make some good matches for the smaller heavyweight contenders and champions.

Eubank's in-ring style is almost exactly like what Edgar would box like if he was like a boxer.

And with that...
Red Death style boxing!

I don't think I've ever heard anything that sounds cooler.

He has not fought since 2007 after dropping a 12 round decision in a 4 man IBF elimination tournament against Eddie Chambers and had to have surgery on a dettached retina if my memory serves me correctly.

Like Marco Antonio Barrera, you mean? The son of a successful maker of film props?

I think anyone appropriately maladjusted can turn out to be a good fighter. MAB's a case in point: a well-off, classically middle-class (in the Weberian sense) kid who went to law school, with (apparently) a savage temper & a vicious streak a mile wide= multiple world titlist.

A mad fvcker's a mad fvcker, in my opinion. Morales grew up dirt poor but I didn't see Barrera give too much ground to him during their three fights.

I think you are right, funnily enough i can't see these violent heroes excelling in the office.

A quote from Thucydides

Nor ought we to believe that there is much difference between a man and a man, but to think that superiority lies with he who is reared the severest school

Very much so.

Chisora comes from a very wealthy landowning family, they own 18 farms around Harare. He grew up up being waited upon by servants and was educated at the fee-paying Prince Edward School.

His parents split and he and is mother came to England 10 years ago, moving to Hampstead Garden Suburb. Check out rightmove for property prices there, its as expensive as you'll find in London.

After some trouble with the police, a probation officer sent him to see Johnny Spencer (Finchley Amateur Boxing Club). The rest, as they say, is history...

Here's another:
"The meaning of words had no longer the same relation to things, but was changed by them as they thought proper. Reckless daring was held to be loyal courage; prudent delay was the excuse of a coward; moderation was the disguise of unmanly weakness; to know everything was to do nothing. Frantic energy was the true quality of a man."
Not particularly germane to the discussion at hand, but I've always liked the quote.

I'm pretty sure (from memory) that James' dad was a builder and bought a big house that needed a lot of work doing. I'm not sure his upbringing was ultra posh; his dad may have had a few bob but that's that. James Hare was a very capable boxer though, in any case.

Agreed. I think the reason it is rarer for boxers to come from that sort of background is that rich kids have easier ways to make a living, and also that those from dirt poor backgrounds often have more drive to succeed when the going gets tough, and boxing is about as tough as sports come.
