Although history will be unkind to Bowe, he would come across as the willie pep of the heavyweight division in direct comparison to the manipulated and used Primo Carnera.

Johnson didn't defend the title against Langford, McVey or Jeannette. Maybe that is who you are thinking of.
Patterson fought subpar opponents for a while instead of the top challengers.
Braddock went more than two years before defending the title.
Dempsey once went three years without defending it.
Willard went more than 3 years without a defense. (At least a serious one)
Fitzsimmons went two years without defending it.
Corbett went three years without defending it.

Are you speaking of their boxing ability or how they conducted themselves in their public and or private life?
The question should perhaps be ,
Who was the least disgraceful champs(s),post-Muhammad Ali(ca.1977).

I always thought Larry Holmes ,how he spoke in public and the media was crude and distasteful and class-less comments
about various things.I cant believe some of the crass things he had said in various newspaper articles in the 1980's.

I am as big a critic of Holmes as any man here, but when he's in the company of wife-beaters, rapists, & other criminals, well...

Well IMOP it was his demeanor in how he spoke, that paved the way for the the public acceptance of the latter (so called champions)real life creepolas.
Have you ever hear of the broken window theory?

Damenir? Demeanour?
Look, Holmes is a bleep a true, utter doublebleep. No arguments, in fact I'm among the first to shout it out. The question, however, is who the most disgraceful figure is, & there's just no way, no how Holmes' being a prick to his core surpasses some of the hard-core criminals who've held the belt.

Larry's got an edge, and I hear he works as hard now as he did when he was grinding out his wins over his opponents. But he does come across as a bitter guy. But hardly a disgrace.

He definitely lost his way. I keep holding out hope that he ends up making amends. But he may need a LOT of time.

Where is that chap who was on here a while back & asked Etienne (currently imprisoned) about that fight? I'm gonna try find his posts on the subject.
That was me sir. Clifford said the following regarding the fight:
"I had a hard, problem filled training camp for that fight, but was in excellent shape. My people and I got to the airport when our promoter met us and said 'no fight, Mike didn't board the plane. But you can stay the week for free.' I wake up and put the tube on Sportscenter and someone says the fight is back on. No one told or asked me anything. So I said 'since it's all about Tyson then let him fight himself.' Jay Larkin from Showtime told me I deserved that money and he was right. So I went out there and got it."
Then he left the next two questions blank when asked about the fight and specifically the KO.

What exactly did Mike do to "disgrace" the Heavyweight Title? He was no longer champion when his career went down hill and the rape conviction happened.
He had a few incidents from 86-90 but nothing disgraceful or too out of the ordinary compared to other heavyweight champions.

Thanks for that.
People can make up their own minds, but I made up mine watching that fight in a pub. His comments come as no surprise. The little dog tanked it.

What did Tyson do????
Not much. Ear chomping. Rape arrests and convictions. Street brawls. Use of vulgar language and crass behaviour in public.....etc. etc. etc.
The topic is disgaceful heavyweight champ not disgraceful only while holding the title.
A real role model.

What made the Tyson-Seldon fight particularly odious, was that it was a pay-per-view fight,
$$$
and it was heavily promoted in the newspapers, cable guide for months in advance by Don King(I use to get messages on my television screen, when I had
a C-Band satellite receiver to go to a certain channel for more information about it, even while I was watching some other programs
that had nothing to do with boxing.
Not only that, but the original date for that fight was postponed,so it was again heavily promoted a second time.
The Tyson-Etienne fight was shown on showtime I believe.
