Mitchell - Tackie:
presumably two judges had it 11 rounds to 1 (119 -109 plus the knockdown taking tackie to 108)
the third judge had in 10 to 2 (118-110 plus the knockdown taking tackie to 109)
So Tackie won 4 rounds out of a possible 24 and scored no knockdowns against 2 guys who can definitely be knocked down. Although they are the No.1 & 2 in the world.
Hatton can outbox this kid, as Duke McKenzie might say.

Basic principles of scoring and then applying the Maths to the the two Tackie fights:
10-10 - if a round is drawn. Most British refs rarely give drawn rounds, arguing it should always be possible to have one man better than the other over a round.
10-9 given in two circumstances (i) when one boxer is better than the other (but not massively) or (ii) a fighter scores a knockdown but otherwise would have lost the round clearly (rarely used)
10-8 either (i) when a fighter would have won (or drawn) the round but knocks down his opponent or (ii) no knockdowns but was utterly dominant
10-7 more than one knowdown in that round.
10-6 frankly, if a judge scores a round 10-6, the ref should have stopped it
A point deducted does exactly what is says, so for example if a fighter winning a round has a point deducted it become 9-9 (technically the scorecard would read 10 (-1) :9
I haven;t seen the actual score cards of the two Tackie fights but:
1. Tackie - Tszyu
120-108 scorecards: Either (i) Tsyu one every round 10-9 or (ii) unlikely, but in theory one or more rounds were drawn but Tszyu but the same number of rounds were scored 10-8
119-108 scorecard: Tackie would have had to have won one round so I would guess ten rounds to Tszyu 10-9, one round 10-8 and a round to Tackie
2. Tackie - Mitchell
118 - 109 score card: probably nine rounds to Mitchell 10-9, one to Mtchell 10-8 and two to Tackie 10-9
119-108 scorecards: probably ten rounds to Mitchell 10-9, one Mitchell 10-8 and one to Tackie 10-9

Unless the ref is Jack Reiss of course. He thinks the fight is just warming up nicely.
or as the commentators say when the referee is blatantly letting the " tv promoters fighter" take far too much in the hope that he can somehow turn it round a la Walker, Pryce, Haye.

This is a huge fight for Hatton. Either we will find out that Hatton is a lot better than we first thought, or that he is a straight forward slugger who will always come up short at the top level.
There's no way he slugs it out with Tackie as he has done against Rios, Smith, Hutchinson etc. and come out on top. Hatton needs to show a lot more to his game. No one has ever outslugged Ben Tackie and beat him. Tszyu and Mitchell, both boxed his ears off, but neither contemplated standing toe to toe and trading with the Ghanaian.
Which begs the question, can Ricky Hatton do something similar?
On evidence, you'd say no. Hatton is a slugger, a guy who bangs the hell out of his opponents body. Can he revert to a sweet boxer and outfox Tackie? That's questionable. I happen to think, the bigger the threat the better Hatton we see. Take the Magee and Tackie fights as example. Two big punchers that could have starched Hatton had he been reckless. What we saw against those two was Hatton at his best, and using a bit of technicality to his work, not just rushing in throwing punches for 3 minutes.
It's these two showings that tell me Ricky Hatton will scrape past Ben Tackie on December 13. The thing that worries me? No one has ever beaten Ben Tackie by going forward. Have we ever seen Hatton fight on the backfoot? To be honest Hatton is more like Teddy Reid than Sharmba Mitchell and Kostya Tszyu ... and we all know what happened to Reid against the scar faced 'wonder'.
Knew that Lupe Pintor once was in a fight with a 10-6 round - had to look it up on the net though.

That's a great link. I knew the scoring was controversial in that fight (Zarate retired for several years in disgust afterwards), and that explains how.
Thank you for all your contributions to the Tackie scoring dilemma. Knockout gave me the idea when he posted on the Junior Witter thread that most people felt Tackie didn't win a round out of the 24 against Tszyu and Mitchell. It was a good way at looking at it, and now that I know Tackie only won four, I'll use it in a preview I'm doing of the Hatton-Tackie fight. And I'll take all the credit of course (only kidding).
