+1You'd imagine Khan will do a number on this guy, but it could be we're a bit blinded by Khan's recent brilliant ( and carefully managed ) run of wins. He's facing the biggest puncher of his career, and for someone will a very brittle chin, one split second mistake and Khan is gonna get splattered for sure.
I think Khan will knock over Maidana, but I think the Argie gets back up, and that could be the real moment of danger for an over confident Khan, as he moves in to get the sensational win, and possibly walks onto one.
I agree the added weight helps Khan, but that chin is always going to leave things on a knife edge when he's facing someone who can punch. He's been kept WELL clear of punchers up to now, for obvious reasons.

Re: khan has to fight the perfect fight as he hasnt got a chin
But that's how we want him to fight isn't it? We don't want him to stand and brawl with somebody who can punch, we want him to fight to his strengths. I have little respect for fighters who go all out as it's the boxing equivalent to going over the top of the trench into heavy machine gun fire.boxerbob wrote:spent the night watching khan and maidanas fights and its clear that khan has bascially no punch resistance.
willie limond a lightweight with no punch at all knocked khan down and a shot gomez who is a super featherweight knocked khan down with a nothing shot.
now freddy roach has improved khans boxing ability but he cant improve his chin....when khan gets hit his legs instantly buckle , his punch resistance is terrible.
maidana is a big puncher who throws wild punches , much slower than khan but fast enough to catch him with 1 big blow.
prescott wasnt that fast and he wobbled khan with a jab , yes a jab before knocking him out in a round.
unless khan runs all night using speed to keep him away from maidana then i only see one winner , he has to fight the perfect fight.
watch maidana vs ortiz and cayo , dont under estimate how well he cuts the ring down and his workrate.
there is a reason why khan has only fought 1 puncher in his career and everybody knows why and what happened.
maidana by ko as he will land that right hand more than once and khan cant take it
yes i have backed my pick on this fight 13/5 for a ko by maidana

Since being ko'd though he's fought Fagan, Barrera, Kotelnik, Salita & Malignaggi. None of these fighters were going to test the weaknesses in his armour and they all highlighted his strengths. I still think he's vulnerable to a big shot on his way out as his hands aren't that high, i'm pretty sure Barrera caught him with one in about the 3rd or 4th when he couldn't see out of one eye.Counter-puncher wrote:i don't think they are that over-ratedfreddydoesdallas wrote:The so-called improvements in Khan's defence have been vastly overrated too though. .Dioufy wrote: You finding it funny how these Yanks are making Maidana out to be some kindof mythical devil puncher? I'm sure he will and that's why it will be interesting to see how he fares if the going gets rough!
Re: khan has to fight the perfect fight as he hasnt got a chin
1) Smaller and weaker blokes could knock Khan out.
2) He's now fighting someone with more power, who can also knock him out.
Therefore: The power difference is less important than it might otherwise have been.
1) The smaller blokes in question are faster, and frequently technically better.
2) The bigger fellas aren't, and their power advantage is null as per above.
Therefore: Whosaythewhatnow?
I know the above requires a stupidly large degree of reductionism, but if people are saying (and they are, they are) that Khan will fall over if someone does as much as look at him funny then what possible difference does the power of his opponent make? If it means that a sucker is going to plant his feet for heavy shots and swing then any fule kno that this will will do nothing but help the new-style Roachificatified tactically-aware Khan.
If y'get'me.
Khan by hit'n'run wide decision. Although he could be knocked out. Although he always could be knocked out. So... Khan by hit'n'run wide decision.

This is funny! You are a funny guy Gomez!
You will be proved right in the end as I am sure Amir Khan is going to lose to someone in the future.
Yesssssssssss - told you so Amir Khan (60-2-1 45 KO's undisputed light welter and welterweight champion) would be exposed - what a fraud!
But it won't be to Maidana.

Papa Maidana will take a new wife on Saturday nightCarlos-Wigan wrote:But it won't be to Maidana.
A round 11 stoppage of Paulie Malignaggi is extremely flattering. Salita well, no comment. I just think Khan's power is also being overated and it's wrong to being compared almost to Maidana's.
When the reality is the 1 or 2 fighters that have been at world class, such as Andreas Kotelnik and even a faded Marco Antonio Barrera were not fazed by his big shots. We have seen blown up featherweights like Gary St Clair take his shots for 12 rounds.
I see the cocksure Khan with his huge entourage, his No1 multi-million dollar trainer Freddie Roach, Goldenboy's backing, his multi-million pound Reebok deal and his 160,000 twitter fans...
...wheras Maidana aint got nothing. He got no gimmes, he got no favours, he fought his way through the rankings on merit.
The betting odds are stacked in favour of a run and clinch affair from Khan. Which will likely see him look a million dollars in the first 3 or 4 rounds. But he will come unstuck.
Then papa maidana will be making sweet love to Prescott's wife.

I think Khan probably WILL fight close to a perfect fight. If he does get tagged and dropped, I'm sure that the lessons learned from the Prescott debacle will stand him in good stead.

oh, just bore off with that same ol' same ol' will you? i mean, really, doesn't it stagnate your brain saying it over and over again? having said that, thanks for letting me know, i'd never have guessed Khan was an endorsement-laden multimillionaire if you didn't tell me twice per average week.G0mez wrote:

headline news, for the forum, listen up everyone- Khan's got loads of money and an entourage (gasps, from the assembled throngs), he's not ("no, really?") hungry ("who, Khan?"), he hasn't earned his way to the top ("the swine!" in unison), he's 'cocksure and arrogant' ("well, that just isn't English, you know").
it's sure a good job we've got you here to remind us, mate.

Re: khan has to fight the perfect fight as he hasnt got a chin
Khan looked piss weak at lightweight but he has benefitted from the move up in terms of punch resistance.
Obviously his chin will always be an issue though.
Still, I think he is going to do a number on Maidana and look a million dollars in the process. I think Khan is going to stop him before the midway point.

Re: khan has to fight the perfect fight as he hasnt got a chin
Roach, who's often uncannily accurate with his predictions, thinks Khan will stop Maidana late on. Presumably on accumulation of punches, a la the Paulie fight.
Having watched Maidana a bit myself recently, I certainly think Amir has the tools to beat him: speed, accuracy, work rate and now, under Roach, a first class game plan/strategy to stick to.
Maidana throws every punch with bad intentions, but they're often wild swings and lunges that end up missing, and he leaves himself off balance and wide open for some good counter-punching. I see Khan exploiting that, and winning this by a comfortable margin, unless Maidana can connect . . . the Argentinian is probably a bit too good to say he only has a punchers chance, but the spectacular K.O. will be his best bet for the victory. A points win for Maidana has to be seen as extremely unlikely, given the gap in skills between the two.

Kahn will box his ears of imo,
If Maidana lands then we know what will happen,
but it's much less likely to happen with Maidana than someone with half his power but with more speed and mobility.
everyone seems to be getting carried away with the fact Madina is a puncher,
but you've got to able to land and thats is what he will have trouble with

Which is why I'd still put money on Ortiz to knock out Amir (quick hands & feet, can hit hard enough) but simply cannot see the guy who beat Ortiz (Maidana) doing the job.
Styles make fights.
Re: khan has to fight the perfect fight as he hasnt got a chin
Khan will be KO'd again in future, but I really don't think Maidana is the man for that. Roach is a bloody clever guy and he knows that Maidana can KO Khan, so he's going to send his charge out to box. Just watch Maidana get repeatedly put over by quick counters. I don't know if Khan will KO him - it depends whether Khan's feeling brave when, and I do mean when, he hurts Maidana. I can even see a stupidly lop-sided 120-106 type decision here.
And Gomez, if Khan gets spanks I will commend you, but you can't keep saying that Khan will be knocked out every fight, because he will in the future. Pick and choose, fella.

You have to tip your hat to Khan for going through with this fight. Nobody can say that Maidana is not a puncher.

But I still reckon this fight would not happen if Maidana, the 'demon puncher', got rid of Chop Chop.bennie wrote:You have to tip your hat to Khan for going through with this fight. Nobody can say that Maidana is not a puncher.

Khan's more Tommy Hearns in chin than Ray Leonard, but he's stronger, more mature and better at light-welter and was killing himsfelf to make lightweight.
I'll go as far to say Khan will make a statement in this fight and win by KO in first three rounds... possibly even the first as Maidana walks onto one.
