id love the minter v hamsho edition of boxing news and the early 80's KO's if you have any ?

Hope this post doesn't get deleted.... but did fightfocus sell his collection. Remember he was asking something rediculous like 15,000 for it.

Well it was a rediculous price but I hope it didn't get wiped or anything.

when you say Fight tapes have you actually converted them to Digital files or are they still in orig film cassettes? That must take up a heck of a lot of space!!

At last count I had approx. 550 books, about 3500 magazines, including complete years of The Ring since 1928 and approx 30 complete years of Boxing Illustrated/Digest.
Also got a good share of complete years of Boxing Monthly, Boxing News, Boxing Outlook (complete run), Boxing Blade, KO and Bert Sugar's Fights Game (complete run).
Add to that a bunch of single issues of mags like International Boxing, Fight Beat, Self Defense, Boxing Scene, World Boxing, Boxing Today, Knockout and more.

The pride of my collection, though, are the complete years I have of Boxing (News) from 1910-20 period, all of them originals and most of them in very good condition (including the first five issues in 1909).
I also have quite a few good condition issues of National police Gazette and World Boxing & Athletic Chronicle from 1908-10.
I just get a kick out of having 100+ year old boxing mags.

As for boxing on tape and DVD, I reckon I must have approx 8000 fights in total - about 500 tapes and the rest on DVD.

I'm never bored.

I have a copy of Rocky 6 on DVD DD

have you got a boxing paper called Boxing World from the 1970's? i've a few copies of that one, picked up at a car boot, have you heard of that one?

Worse mistake I ever did was throw away over 15 years of boxing news. These where mostly the A5 size mags before Boxing news was issued the bigger and more glossy size. I remember my collection was from the the late 70's to mid nineties. They just took up too much room I had them all tied together in years with string and they were kept in my bedroom.

Some time after i had thrown them away i had a brain wave that could have made me some money. I saw on a pub wall one edition of boxing news framed and I thought Christ i could have framed some of the better issues and sold them on Ebay.

I have over 2500 fights from the mid 80's to late 90's on VHS in the attic, but cant transfer them over to DVD as I do not have the facility to do it.

I sold loads of things on Ebay over the years. A pair of boxing gloves signed by Barry Mcguigan, A original program of Bruce Woodcock vs Joe Baski, sold that for about 30 quid many years ago. lots of signed pictures i collected over the years were sold on ebay and bought by a pub down south somewhere.

Does anyone have complete years of Boxing News from 1954 to 1964. Except 1962 (which I have ).
I'm doing research for a book I'm proposing to do once I get agreement from the boxer himself. I only need them temporarily to draw out references to the fighter so that I can piece together aspects of his boxing career. I don't want to mention the boxer until I get the go ahead.
If someone was willing to go through their own copies, and scan the references for me,I would cetainly recompense you for the time and effort. Or if you would trust me to return them undamaged I would pay for all packaging and postage.

Going slightly off topic,

VHS tape is incredibly flammable. Cellulose acetate or whatever it's known as, is like super super combustible.

I'd recommend ripping them to disk and throwing them. Anyone with hundreds of VHS tapes basically has a petrol tanker parked in their house.

I think you're being a bit alarmist here and confusing acetate with nitrate?

It's like saying get rid of all the paper in your house. It doesn't just spontaneously combust for no reason.

They do degrade though and I'd hope Eric has transferred them to some sort of storage solution (to DVD is a bad idea as they degrade even more quickly).

Obviously if his lock-up or whatever catches fire, he's screwed so some sort of fire proofing or whatever would be advisable.
