Re: Audley keeps his purse
I see no problems at all Audley Harrison receiving his fight purse. The fight should have never happened in the first place and thus its the TV executives and promoters problem not Audley's.

There was nothing pathetic about Thompson's effort. He came to win, and did win one or two early rounds, posed some questions, lasted until the 11th and took his lumps along the way.stujones wrote:Its a never say never world though. He will never get another major world titleshot. His dreams have been dashed.
And he has no-one to blame but himself.
Tony Thompson also.

And the question becomes, where does it all end?
Should we keep Mr X purse because he didn't throw enough punches?
Should we keep Mr X purse because he was too cautious?
Should we keep Mr X purse because he didn't engage enough?
Should we keep Mr X purse because there wasn't enough actonin the fight?
Can you see what I'm saying...
We might not argee with the way that a boxer went about a fight, that doesn't mean he should get his money took off him.
Fully agree with this- it would have set a dangerous precedent. If it had been withheld, there would be so many cases in the future where if fighters who had performed even worse (if that is possible!) had kept their purses people would complain of inconsistency.

Been a lot of poor EBU challengers in the past couple of years - Sprott, Pickering, Lawton, etc.
