An increasingly rare event in British boxing is the rematch, but Tony Bellew, one of the most honest fighters you could ever wish to meet bucks the trend when he gives Ovill McKenzie an immediate return for the vacant British light-heavyweight title at York Hall on February 19.

Bellew climbed off the floor twice to stop McKenzie in eight rounds in Liverpool just last month but the stoppage looked premature from Preston referee Phil Edwards with the fight still very much up for grabs. The bone of contention is that, while Bellew was given the chance to continue after those two knockdowns, the second one a heavy knockdown, McKenzie was given no such chance after he clambered up from a knockdown in that eighth round, referee Edwards waving it off immediately.
McKenzie, who goes by the nickname of "The Upsetter", called out Bellew in the aftermath and while you should always be careful what you wish for, the Derby man is strong, seasoned and sharp enough to put up another excellent showing. Will he win? No, because he came as close as he ever will to winning the first time, dropping Bellew with right hands in the first and second rounds but admiring his work too much and allowing the heavy handed Bellew back into the fight. It was a big left hook that floored McKenzie in the end, but he did deserve a chance to continue, in my opinion, and continue he does next month.
However, the unbeaten Bellew looks likely to punch his way to the points.

how are warren promos like for refunding tickets if fights fall through ??

Think the Bomber will learn from last time and stop Ovil but its a great fight

i expect ovil to come out hard & fast & try to cement victory rather then stand of a wounded bellew which could get him knocked out or maybe bellew cant make the adjustments needed defensively & get pancaked.
this fight is exciting & lived up to expectations last time round & in one word DANGER D

i think bellew is going down a bumpy road in his career & people should buckle up & enjoy the ride 8)

If this is at York Hall then I'll defo be having a bit of this.

tony won the last fight and will win the one earlier , then on to bigger and better things

Really?? Come on, stop blowing smoke up the lad's arse. The fight was ordered by the Board and if he doesnt rematch McKenzie then he doesnt get to fight for the British title. Simples

Respect to Bomber for this. He won fair and square but there was some controversy. Not ducking a challenge, responding to what the fans want.....full credit. Good luck to the fella

It says they are on sale on ticketmaster. Just went on there and there are indeed tix on sale for that date, albeit with the old opponent of Stubbs. So I'm sure if you bought them you'd get the right tix, but they could do with changing it on ticketmaster.

Well done for taking the rematch. If all goes well for Bellew, he'll get a lot of credit with the fans for going through with this.

Yeah, Bellew is better than he has showed in his last few fights and is a better fighter than McKenzie. He just needs to settle back down and let his fighting do the talking. Forget Cleverly for the time being for it will only act as a distraction

I always go for the underdog so would like to see McKenzie spark Bellew. But the result will go to the home fighter.
