Two questions just occured to me now that Hagler has lost his title.

1. If Hagler wins a major world title again, will he automatically be able to see a unification fight now that he has met the quota?

2. Hagler defended and eventually lost the IBF Title. Does his reign and achievements score with the other boxing bodies?
For example, lets say Marvin wins the WBC Title, will he have to defend that too 3 times before getting a unification fight or is a title defence accepted universally? :TU:
1. No, there must be 3 consecutive defenses after winning a title to qualify. So in your case he'd have to win another title then defend it 3 times to be eligible. It makes unification an incredibly special feat this season.

2. No, each title reign is seperate from the others.
This is going to leave us very stuck for opponents once the Million Dollar Tourney starts.

If it gets to the point where there are no eligible fighters in the top 10 then a top 25 opponent will suffice. No one's getting stripped for lack of opponents.

How long was Ray Robinson's reign at #1? Hagler must be getting close to the record. I think hes up to around 10 weeks now

Actually he's nowhere near it Mr. Fist Of Legend... When I counted up Hagler's Number One status, I think it was 22/23 weeks, if I can remember from last season.

Of course it wasn't consecutive weeks, it was broke up, but Robinson didn't budge from the top between the 20s and 30s. (I think)

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Hagler elligible for a Unification fight? Hagler made 5 successful defences of his IBF title.

I asked the question before about the major title defences being universally accepted but it wasn't answered.

No, Hagler isn't eligible at the present time. The 3 defenses of the title must be made consecutively, and when he lost the title his streak was broken. I explained all this a few posts above.

I apologise, I was wrong. :TU:

FYI, Burley and Fitzsimmons are now eligible for a unification fight, should they seek one.
