tough sh*t.....they chose to enter it didn't they? Take Gary Sykes for example. No likey....no fightey!

True, I'm a big fan of Gary and he knew exactly what he was getting into joining prizefighter. Not his style to go blazing in the first 3 rounds and he suffered because of it. Lost his unbeaten record.
Sykes was unlucky mate he wouldn't walk on to that shot 9 times out of 10...or maybe I'm totally wrong and he would do exactly that in a 3 rounder every time. I'd never heard of that lad that won it and still can't think of his name off the top of my head but he wasn't half strong........would Gary have been involved in that exchange had it been an 8...10...12 round fight?.....noone knows now

Not looking good for the journeymen one after last night...

No, i think the journeyman one might have been put back a bit by last nights event.
One thing they need to sort out is when the winner withdraws to cuts. Having someone step into the final kind of kills the tournament aspect

It's entertaining, which is at the end of the day all people need.
However, there is something worrying about this cuts aspect. A cut or injured boxer being obliged to pull out seems now to have become "part of the drama," and I'm not sure that is ethical.

I agree, he usually starts up slow and gets a feel for the fight before he ups his workrate and hammers them for the next rounds.
It was gary buckland by the way, I heard rumours he's going to challenge for the superfeatherweight belt since he dropped down a weight, will be an interesting fight to watch.

After every poor Prizefighter we act like it is a shit tournament that should be eradicated. I for one am a fan. Of course some of the events have been disapointing for one reason or another, but generally, I still enjoy watching it and will continue to do so in the future. Is it irrelevant? No. Audley got an EBU shot on the back of his win and that led him to a world title bout. Similiar situation for Casey. Their wins propelled them to the highest level of boxing. The winners almost always get a boost to their careers.
There are a few kinks that could be worked on though.

I think the reserves should fight first too see who goes into the fight if there is an injury instead of coin toss I'm sure u get two grand for just being reserve

Its worn already.
But Sky love it because its cheap, structured and reliable.
They can time adverts, they pay peanuts and they dont' have to explain it to casual fans.
As a format, including nearly men and hardworking circuit fighters, it tried to give Boxing back its soul, which is ironic as the show seems to lack the naive charm of the first one and it is entirely souless.
And they need to seriously look at rules which permit a reserve nobody has heard of to fight int he final.
Thats just bonkers.

make an international heavyweight prizefighter , include 2 brits , 2 americans , 2 europeans and 2 from the rest of the world , put up the prize money to 50k - there would be loads of fighters interested of a standard certainly no worse than we have had previously and would be interesting from a fans point too
Could go something like :
Sam Sexton
Michael Sprott
Yakup Saglam
Vladimir Chanturia
Cedric Boswell
Monte Barrett
Alex Leapai
Friday Ahunyana
Reserves
Chauncy Welliver , Bermane Stiverne
Of course theres plenty that could be changed, maybe to people the casuals might be more aware of but i think thats a very realistic line up for a 50k prize , id watch that much is certain and the winner may well be elevated into a world title challenge

Its all about the quality of field. Saturday was not good the best have been. Super featherweights, Super Bantams, middle, first cusier first heavy.

Had Sky not milked this, kept it to the "old divisions" and made it once a year for each division it would still hold it's magic. They could've had superfights between tournament winners after a few years and even had a belt.
Oh well.

The next one in March! Every two months is ok as long as line up reasonable. Heavy needs international opposition.

I don't mind the odd Prizefighter but I think Sky/Hearn have definitely milked it and I agree it's taking up tv slots where better title bouts could have gone. There's too many Prizefighter's - when they get the lineups good then it's worth it but last night the lineup wasn't the best, so many fighters in there with less than 10 fights to their name.
Sky should just put it on less and make Hearn have better lineups when it is on.

nonsense man and don't even bring Harrison into it. Yeah so what....he got an EBU shot. And what happened?? He served up some sh*tty lame duck performance and Sprott was the only proactive man in the ring, working hard , putting on a show for the fans....the problem is Sprott worked too hard and gassed himself.....I guarantee you right now that if Sprott, who was 4 or 5 rounds up, had gone into that last round and just stood there and moved around the ring and done fck all, Harrison would have done the exact same thing, big fraudulent lump that he is, and Sprott would have won.
Taking it on a notch......and just like the EBU shot, Harrison got it cos thesedays there's no fckers to fight at heavy anyway. The fireld is pretty poo domestically and internationally. Harrison got to fight Sprott...and especially Haye for no other reason than pure fcking GREED........so let's not go on as though Prizefighter is some fcking springboard to European and World honours cos that's total bullsh*t. It's a long time since I've had to deal with as big an effing dimwit on here as you. Get an education you tosser!

Too many of them I agree but it has it's place as an entertainment type show, like the masters five a side tournament. What I don't like is the waste of a TV slot and the portion of the boxing budget allocated to it. Keep it separate and find separate money for it I say.
Six of these of these a year is too much and it's costing us six real fight nights that don't happen and potential champions of the 'real' sport are being held back.

it seem's the only way of guaranteein 50/50 competitive fights & a stacked bill. i dont like the event being over the one night & fights over 3rds it should be 5.

Audley's performance in the EBU fight was irrelevant. Fact is, it was his Prizefighter win that helped get him that fight. Winning the tournament has a very positive effect on most careers and even the fighters who don't win come out with a bigger name. Considering this and the fact that we discuss PF so much on this forum, I don't see how it is irrelevant.

Honestly I struggle to believe the threads that slag off prizefighter. How many bills has anyone been to where there's 7 evenly matched fights. 8 boxers that are desperate to win. All fights are guarenteed action. No eastern european imports. Nobody surviving on points so they can get paid next week. Big name quality fighters willing to put it all on the line.
Honestly, we got what we always wanted. Long may it continue.

Can't happen over 5 rounds as a boxer would exceed 12 rounds that is the maximum any fighter can have.

This doesn't represent every Prizefighter I've seen. Some of the shows have been a poor nights viewing. I'd take just one of the brutal Title eliminators or Area title fights that we get rather than a whole Prizefighter show or even the whole lot.
