I really hope i'm reading too much into this but has Gavin Rees vacated his British lightweight title to step up to face Khan in April. He said he would consider going back up for a title shot

After Hatton's refusal to fight him, I'd be pleased to see Witter finally get a decent payday. Not going to be a great fight, mind.

Not a bad fight if Witter can make the weight or if fought at a catchweight. It would be easy to sell but the only trouble is I don't see Khan being able to look good against him, Witter is unbelievably awkward and would give Khan a lotto think of. Good matchup imo

if Junior is comfortable at the weight, could be an interesteing fight.

Horrible fight to make, awful clash of styles and for what gain. Witter isn't the fighter he was and even then he wasn't that exciting. Surely Sky will not suffer this as PPV and neither will HBO after Khan was so exciting last time. It will be a negative chess match and will not do Khan any favours unless he knocks him out cold early.

They must be able to come up with something better than this with Sky and HBO cash to play with. What are Golden Boy doing leaving the Khans to find their own opponent? Look what happened last time they did that.

Can't see it happening and what will the Khans do if Witter can't make the weight and they need to find a replacement. Spwend the money now or if you need a last minute replacement you will have to and more the because everyone is already pissed with their way of doing business.

Gavin Rees would be mildly more creditable than Witter but neither should be considered if Khan is serious about his world star credentials. Who in the USA wants to see either of these fights?

It's a big world out there so find someone decent FFS.

Nice to see some input from AA Promotions who will do as much as they can to scupper the fight,a big promotion that they will not be involved in. Don't be shocked if they put Kell Brook forward to take Khan on after all the hype that went out a few weeks back. They wont look good if Brooks ageing stablemate (witter) gets he call over him.
As for making the weight when has Witter ever failed to do so?

And I believe Khan was with FW Promotions the last time he was allowed to pick his own opponent when he was beaten.

i personally think it's a good match - Junior cabn punch and has the experience and ring savvy to diffuse Amir's fast flurries.

he also has pedigree at world level and has boxed both bradley and alexander.

i'd be well behind this fight and i reckon it would sell on PPV. junior has been the victim of character assasination from certain quarters re his style but what was boring about when he smashed Vivian Harris to pieces?

i think all things considered it's a good fight and could set things up nicely for an extravaganza later in the year, whoever wins ....

Really? where? from who?

Considering they were trying to get McCloskey for less that $100k, I would have thought that the extra $0.5m that Peterson was looking for would be insurmountable.

Maybe as I said at the outset of the McCloskey negotiations that Dudey was merely a prawn in the Peterson negotiations. We shall see. Hopefully is wont turn out to be a damp squid!

Sounds interesting? Would that be a Witter-Brook fight or a Khan- Brook fight?

Completely agree. Matches like this will turn more people from the sport rather than bringing new fans in.

Hatton cut his teeth beating up faded former champions throughout his career and it gave him the experience to progress and for a time he was the star of british boxing an did very well in the US which culminated in the blockbuster fights with Mayweather and Pacman. Hatton attracted 20,000 fans to the MEN arena on a regular basis filmstars, pop stars, actors and celebrities ,all walks of life as well as hard core fight fans.
We have two pay per view fighters in Britain,Haye and Khan,if boxing is to reach the heights of the Bruno,Benn,Eubank,Hamed and Hatton era's then Khan v Witter makes sense.
Witter faced Bradley and Alexander while having to contend with the fact that his father (now deceased) was dying of cancer. He survived a massive knockdown and climbed off the floor and fought his way back into the fight and lost a SD to Bradley.
How is quitting on his stool against Alexander any different than what Alexander did at the weekend? Alexander wanted the fight to go to the scorecards anticipating he was in front.Witter 34 at the time claimed an elbow/hand injury and was behind on the scorecards and needing a KO to win which was impossible with the injury.Alexander (23)quit with a cut,a cut that fighters like Hatton would consider a hazard of the job and would fight through it.Admittedly Alexanders corner did a terrible job on it.Only 3 fighters have beaten Witter all world class.
Inactivity due to a cruciate ligament injury is the only thing that has kept Witter out of the ring and from reports it took 12 months from his last fight to rehabilitate.Witter has a fight lined up on the 19th in Canada so we know he must have been training for at least 10 weeks, and there is about 12 weeks to the Khan fight.More than enough time to get into peak shape.

Oh yeah btw, Witter said on SKY he can't make the weight anymore.

The Americans dont want Hatton v Witter with Witter a WBC belt holder and a top 5 guy but they'll make Khan v Witter a 37 year old, inactive, weight drained shell, with poor timing and poor form coming back from an injury known to have curtailed his movement?

Aw shucks.

Not sure how they would approach this fight?

a non-title welter debut ? a catch-weight ?

It'll be Peterson, I'm pretty sure about it from the rumours I've heard.
