I loved him when I was a kid. I first saw him on a Tyson undercard, I think Tyson-Bruno 2. He didn't put his guard up once, threw three punches and put the other geezer down for a count each time. In retrospect the other guy was probably totally over matched, but it was one of the most thrilling things I'd ever seen. The audacity of it. I've always loved boxers who could showboat and pull it off ever since. I know a lot of people hate it, see it as disrespectful, but it does it for me. I think that's why I was such a big Calzaghe fan: he used to drop his hands all the time too and get away with it. We'd be shouting "get your hands up! F*cks sake!" but he came through. It was exciting, you know? Those type of fighters are entertainers.

Actually, do you think that's kind of part of a UK style now? If you look at most of our biggest stars over the past few years, Naz, Calzaghe, Haye, Froch, they all keep their hands low. All these British kids getting into boxing must be emulating these guys? I wish I could pull it off...

Naz will always be one of my favorite boxers.

Thats far too high in my opinion, for both of them. Naz was good at beating people slightly past their prime. he fought one great fighter close to his prime and was soundly beaten.

Take the hype away and Naz was a terrific little fighter with a lot of talent. Possibly in UK top 10 or 15.

I met him in a department store where I was working.......

He was sat on a rocking chair going backwards and forwards, looking slightly miserable and a little cocky. He asked me what I did in the shop, so I said I was part of a sales team and he kind of looked through me with those eyes of his, not blinking at all. It was before the calvo fight and he had been laid up with a back injury. I asked him how his back was and he explained that he had been sleeping on a board for a while to get it straightened out. I asked when he was fighting next and he said " may the 18th and can't i wait" and he said it just like he was talking to larry merchant, only it was me. He eventually left and he struck me as a slightly intimidating fella, which a chip on his shoulder and definately arrogant. I wouldnt have described him as a nice person who was easy to talk to, because he didn't go out of his way to make you feel at ease chatting with him.

I wanted Kelley to "smoke his boots" but weirdly, when Hamed went down twice, I was in bed listening to 5 Live, a 14 or 15 year old boy, I started rooting for Naz............it occurs to me that was probably just a bit of nationalistic pride.

Like I say, he can probably be nice when it suits him but what sticks out for me is the total lack of even professional respect he gave to Steve Robinson....general "A can't be beat" cockiness.......smashing virtually every bone in a strangers body by speeding over a brow in the wrong lane, and then coming out of prison to a limosine and an entourage and music with a big fcking grin. Oh yeah....and get hammered by Marco Barrera and turning his back on the game when his abilities eroded enough to the point he couldn't win easy any more. Plum. Bye bye

Best british fighter ever, and yep i think an all time great. On another night, in a different fight, it would not have been an impossibility for him to beat Barrera, just my opinion. Either way, it doesn't matter - most exciting fighter there's been.

Not seen enough of the old timers (Turpin and co) to make a judgement, but seen plenty of Buchanan, Watt, McGuigan, Minter, Stracey et al, and just feel Lewis in particular has to be up there.
