Its a huge sentence.Its like 16 years+ before the third gets knocked off for pleading guilty.I would have thought five years maximum for this type of offence.Not saying its right but there has to be consistency,he was hammered.

But this tool will be out and back giving it large, again.

If he had done something similar in the past he would have got an indeterminate sentence.More likely backroom chat that got him the top end of the scale.Very powerful places those crown courts...

I would tend to agree. My uncle got murdered in an unprovoked attack that was classified first degree murder.... His murderer was out in less than 8 years.

I wasn't at all surprised to read this. I saw John Fury calling out someone in the crowd while Tyson Fury was fighting John McDermott. It was ridiculous. After the fight the Fury lot went after some people.

How the hell is 11 years excessive?? I can't think of a much worse case of GBH than this and the maximum penalty for GBH with intent (which this clearly was) is life imprisonment. Not only did the guy blind the poor bloke in one eye but also tried to blind him in the other eye also. 11 years is the very least he deserved in my view. Maybe the arrogant arsehole wasn't be thinking he's the toughest man in the UK when he was pleading and begging the judge to let him off. Pathetic!

i think you might have got that from the Boxing Monthly....if it wasn't then perhaps BN. Cos I read the same article. I think these magazines give too much coverage to what I consider very mediocre fighters. I've never rated Fury as a fighter, even less as an athlete. This month I believe BM have given a 2 page spread to Richard Towers on account of the fact he's 6 foot 8, he went to prison for doing heinous things and now he's a reformed 8 fight novice (I couldn't give a sh*t......come and tell me when he's had a fight!) Novelty-value in a sh*t division. I say that without wanting to disparage the boxer, the writer or the publication (which I enjoy), just my opinion.

i think it's good that publications like BM actually look for STORIES within the game, rather than just writing about Amir f*cking Khan every month.

well said m8 im sick of boxers trying to get a rep of things they ve done in the past ,this ones been to jail this ones done that, who gis a monkeys most boxers are hard cases thats how they get involved in the sport i know one boxer who has been stabbed, shot at, loads of other stuff but doesnt go around bragging about it, real men dont say shit about stuff like that.

I think in cases like these an example needs to be made. If Fury would have got off with a 3 or 4 year sentence then you can be sure that this would have acted as a licence for other brainless morons (both in the gypsy community and outside it) to try the same thing. Whether the sentence acts as a deterrant to others is a topic to be debated in its won right but what it does do is show that a very dim view will be taken in cases like these by the courts.

That was my initial thought but to be honest mate, we dont know his previous and the victim has been left with a severe life-long disability. Plus the sentencing would be largely governed by similiar previous cases.

Lots of traveller men have nothing but their 'honour'. They are largely uneducated and eek out survival on their wits, bravado and muscle. It's a sad state of affairs really and it concerns me that their lifestyle is increasingly aped by non-travellers who bewilderingly seem to admire and be fascinated by what is a pretty pathetic way of life - for the most part.

The tax payer will now have to keep John Fury for the better part of a decade. I'd be interested to know how much he has paid in tax over the years.

The piece I did on Towers was all about how he thought a lifestyle of crime was the completely wrong choice and how dignity is found in plain old hard work and the redemptive powers of the best sport in the world.
