Should be a really good fight

Cook has got a lot of heart, will come to win and can bang. Gavin has got the better skills which will see him through

Should be a great learning fight well done for taking it :TU:

This is a decent domestic dust up IMO. I would fancy Frankie to get a battling victory over 12.

Ah this should be a good fight. Credit to Frankie for taking the fight, this is a big step-up and a dangerous fight: Cook can punch.

Nice one Frankie. Good chance to step up and show what you can do against a seasoned guy. Good luck fella, but still dont think you will need it.

Cookies a good lad as well; he's got an horrible body hook. This is an ambitious match; was Jason also in training for a bout or has he been called out of the blue?

In any case FW is letting his top stars take some risks which is brilliant for us fans.

What is happening with Saunders? He looked to be really well suited to the professional style; I realise he has had injuries but Frankie Gavin and James DeGale are flying now.

A mate of mine has no interest in boxing. He is confused by all the weights, the titles, the pre-fight rants, the staredowns, the bizarre ring entrances... Christ, I am confused!
However, he likes the ring girls, and the odd flutter, and to my mild amazement has stuck £50 on Frankie Gavin to win a world title as a pro, which I presume is a proper world title, one of four. Why? He read about Frankie as world amateur champion, nothing more, yet my indifferent mate could be on to a real winner as, this Saturday at York Hall, Frankie draws closer to a world title shot in his first 12-rounder against the established and downright dangerous Jason "The Power" Cook.
"Funtime" Frankie, a 25-year-old who turned pro just two years ago, faces a man who turned pro in October 1996 and held the European lightweight title in his pomp, a title he won by savage early knockout. Cook is now 35, and up at light-welterweight, but comes off a solid stoppage of fellow Welshman Barrie Jones - a southpaw like Gavin - and still clearly carries a dig, particularly in the early rounds of a fight. You know, in the last seven years, Cook has lost only to Gavin Rees, a former WBA light-welterweight champion (points). He held Lenny Daws to a bruising 12-round draw for the British light-welterweight title just last year, shaking Daws in the opening frames.
Make no mistake about it, Cook is a big ask of the developing Frankie. Yes, Frankie has charisma and quick hands, yes, he is slick and sharp-hitting, yes, he is a great counterpuncher and yes, he did so much as an amateur, but with a mere eight paid fights behind him (all wins), anything could happen on Saturday. After all, Cook has 31 fights behind him, 27 of them wins. Gavin really needs to box clever before stepping on the pedal against Cook, who took this fight at very late notice and will surely flag as the rounds progress, surely show his age.
Nevertheless, this match sums up the coming weekend for domestic boxing - a big match, a big weekend.

everyone has their own view but as a see him in the gym and on the road i know the statement gavin made "then step down a level" is a bullshit statement and a disrespectful one too, with these two fighters, cook and williams,it will be two different tests altogether you got cook a big puncher who runs out of gas (imo) after 5-6 rounds then you got williams who wont take a step backwards and will pressure gavin till the final bell and ok williams might take 3 punches to land 1 but that one will have more of an affect on gavin than the 3 punches gavin lands on williams. williams will be the toughest test for gavin as gavin hasnt fought anyone decent in his career to date and all the gavin nut huggers are saying he is world class???????? me personally i cant see it yet cause he hasnt been in with a top ten fighter yet but time will tell

im not saying gavin isnt a good prosect but let him learn the trade and earn the right to be called a world class fighter like i always say let the public judge dont shout your own mouth off, williams has stepped up to the plate every fight he has had so for me he has earned my respect and that of the boxing public

All Gavin has said is he feels Williams is a step down from Cook. Is he not allowed to offer that opinion?

Gavin beats everyone domestically. He'll look fantastic against anyone who comes to fight. I like Williams, but Gavin will make him look daft in there. Williams is not quick enough to land on Gavin imo.

how can williams be a step down when he has fought for the british title and only lost by a headbut cut when gavin hasnt fought anyone were i have thought "this will be a good test for gavin"? let allegedly make the fight then and i bet my life williams stops gavin

Good fight for frankie at this stage, cook always looks in pain when a good body shot lands and frankie is a real solid puncher down stairs. :bag:

He's a step down from Cook - that's what has been said.

Gavin was a world class amateur and has looked quality so far in the pros. He'll walk through his domestic opponents in the same vein that Degale has.

Williams is decent, but that's it in my eyes. Despite the judges only having Williams two behind against Daws, in everyone else's eyes he was comfortably beat. Williams is too slow, he's made for Gavin.

are we going with the judges or public opinion? you say cook drew with daws but the public thought he lost, the judges had williams 1 behind on 2 and level on 1 judges but your saying public thought he lost comfortably so we need to make our minds up dont we? judges or public opinion?
