Anyway, upgrading this to the commonwealth title would be an absolute joke, and one of the biggest problems we've got in modern boxing, putting a shiny new label on something and claiming it's something it isn't to sell it to the public.

I'm approaching this obstacle with only three days to go. What can you seriously expect Sky/FW to do with such short notice? The bill is yet to be cancelled so at this moment in time, one has to assume that there will be some sort of action occurring at the York Hall on Saturday night.

It's not ideal that the original card is falling apart and I offer my sympathies to fans who expected to see Bellew/McKenzie or Gavin/Cook. Olubawimo v McDermott looks the likely headliner pending a replacement for Cook so it was my thinking that TV bosses might want to put a better shine on a 50-50 heavyweight fight.

If that deserves sarcastic backlashes then I'll be better prepared next time I post.

It was genuine.

A Commonwealth title fight is over 12 rounds, whereas a Southern Area title fight is over 10. The Commonwealth title is also a lot more respected as a title than a Southern Area title.

Getting Chisora to drop his Commonwealth title to help save a farcical situation for Warren is a bit cynical, but it wouldn't be the worst example of belt dropping for similar reasons in recent years.

Not having a pop at you Chris, and for what it's worth i think Larry and McDermott is potentially a cracking fight, as a fan of both guys i was looking forward to this one more than either of the previous headliners.

I just hate when promoters put these belts on the line to sell a fight as something it's not, we've seen it a million times with these obscure Africans that come out of nowhere for a Commonwealth fight. But i guess it is their job and i'm sure the thought has crossed warrens mind to make it seem more attractive to the casual viewer.

but the frankie gavin situation is not right, warren only stepped up opponents since bellews injury, it proves frank believes his way past these opponents, but what about vinny mitchell ? and the news about jamie cox was terrible but he was still on boxrec as opponent tba only 2 days ago, he died 2 weeks ago, his name should of been taken off the bill then, but in general warrens fighters are to fight tba till the last minute, its just unprofessional.
i really hope the lomax fight comes off, it has to, larry v mccdermot is great but there has to be two good fights.

Purdy is injured,its on another thread..

This isn't good, if Frankie doesn't get a fight this month, that will mean he has had 6 rounds of pro boxing in 10 months!!

Doesn't Lomax v Gavin have all the hallmarks of a horrendous clash of styles?

Anyway it will be good to measure Gavin's performance against that of Kell Brook - Kell demoralised Lomax with his speed, accuracy and power and the ref did Lomax a favour in round three and called a halt. Be interesting to see how Gavin gets on ...
