I know Dubai has a gym that caters for boxing and kick-boxing.

i believe so was an engineer who risked it for the cash ..knew they were being watched but risked it anyway...three of them in total all got beheaded.

Would be great to have another boxrec'er over here mate and you're certainly in the right industry! Can't compare it to the Caribbean as never been, but oil industry execs get fantastic packages here (not that you're slumming it right now ) and as a city there's so much more to do here than there used to be - it's a genuine international city these days by any metric, whether that's the sporting events like the rugby 7s (best weekend of the year and nirvana for an ex-rugger bugger like you!) or the nightlife. Good place to bring the kids up as well as very safe, great outdoor life and good schools like Repton and Wellington. And of course Abu Dhabi's taking off massively with things like the F1 and it's only an hour up the road.
I think with the regional situation a lot of money's going to be put into Dubai rather than places like Bahrain as it's done a good job of positioning itself as the 'Switzerland of the Middle East', so it's definitely going to benefit.
Anyway, you're also a West Country boy and we need more of us out here

No worries - it is funny how this forum leads to you building up knowledge of people without having ever met them... it's the only forum I belong to and I'd love to do a proper boxrec meet-up when I'm back in the UK at some point as been posting here for years now and still haven't met a single person in the flesh!
So if you're ever out here for a visit be sure to give me a shout - my industry isn't as lucrative as yours, but has allowed me to make some really good contacts 'around town' who are great entertainment on a night out. Ended up at a club on Friday night with a group of ex-British Army officers who are now in 'private security' and one of them who's got his own company is clearly doing well as he bought a six-litre bottle of Belvedere - utter madness.

Not really mate - they're the ones who run the businesses that the mercs work for. One of the guys who was with us runs the Afghanistan office and was heading to Kabul the next day so understandably wanted to go large!

To be honest I prefer not to know as well, as while they were good company, I think I'd probably have some ethical issues wtih what goes on.
