John does he running dont worry about that, we do the same runs together mixing it up during the week from sprints to 8 miles 6 days aweek, John has always been Fat since iv know him as a Kid. He can do 12 rounds on his head, he is super fit.... I do agree he could do with losing a stone and toning the rest up but i would prefer to look like John then Larry and be on the winning side

super fit??? ... complete tosh. its johns fault he has not gone the extra mile and won titles. he has good boxing skills, decent amateur pedigree and astute ring savvy. he could have been pushing european championship level if he worked harder, he eats too much and trains too little....simples!

So Martin is lying?John boxed Fury for 10x3's at a very fast pace for the heavies and was still punching at the end.He also did 12 with Williams, twice.Ask a few of the pros on here how hard 6x3's is for instance.Regardless of his build,he is obviously a super fit bloke.

Well, he is an odd one. You take one look and think he could barely go more than a couple of rounds. But he IS fit, that's undeniable. The first Fury contest was very hard-fought; no way could someone who lacked fitness compete at that pace.

I think McDermott should have as his entrance music "Stepping Stone" by the Monkees. (The lyrics are "I'm NOT your stepping stone").

Still think the Danny Williams first fight was one of the worst decisions I've seen and the Tyson Fury first fight was a shocker aswell. Going in there against Larry and stopping him in the first, John deserves some sort of title shot.
I'm sure he'd fight anybody.

I wonder how many casual viewers were watching tv on Saturday night and thought "this fat lad is gonna get a beating" !
He does look like the Pilsbury dough man, but as others have said he must be really fit - I just don't understand how somebody who trains so much could look like that - he must eat a massive amount of junk food.

It's prob just genetic who cares what a boxer body looks like means nothing look at George foreman in the 90s . In the past u had the likes of galentino, tubbs Witherspoon buster Mathis I could go on all good fighters. Then u had fighters like Bruno who looked great put stamina wise they weren't as good

yeah, and 'The War Machine' looked like Charles Atlas. Didn't do him any good though.
Get in there Big John, that's the best 75 seconds of boxing i've seen in ages.
you obviously dont know your boxing, macdermott is a slod and the war machine was so novice like its unbelievable, if thats your idea of good boxing then i pity you.
Save your pity. I enjoyed watching John McDermott knock Larry O out, thats all i'm saying. I'm not interested in any of that 'you obviously don't know your boxing' caper. I certainly wouldn't call McDermott a slod, whatever that is.

McDermott looked out of shape, even by his standards.
Larry bombing straight out to him, looking to exchange was obviously a big mistake.
One guy had good technique and composure, the other didnt have either.
Decent result. However John really needs to start training alittle more aggressively. Whether you agree with that or not, doesn't matter, as its the truth.

Props to him for doing well and everything. I still don't get it though.
I'm 5'8" and quite athletic. I don't fight competitively but I go kickboxing and lift weights and train, at most, 9 hours a week. I do train hard, but it's nowhere near the life of a competing athlete. I can sit and eat whole tubs of ice cream, go drinking and put away a few pints, get in fish and chips, Indians. If someone buys us some sweets, I'll eat the lot. Yet I always weigh in at around 11.5 stone. If I watch what I eat, I can make 10.5 stone (say I'm going on holiday and want to look beach fit) in a month. If I was a pro and I drained, I could make light welter, maybe even lightweight (although I wouldn't like to have a go at it). I eat MUCH more than most of my friends who are taller but don't exercise with quite the zeal I do.
I suppose the point I'm making is, if I can eat the sh*t I do, put in probably not even a quarter of the training that a pro fighter has to, and still be pretty trim, then what on earth are heavyweights like McDermott eating? How many calories do you need to train for a ten rounder? A hell of a lot I'm betting. So what's he eating on top of that? You can say genetics but that only plays a small part. His misses must be deep frying everything! With chips on the side. He is a VERY fat man. Very big people burn off more calories than smaller types like me just walking aroundI wonder what he would look like if he had the body fat percentage of someone like David Haye? Would he even be a heavyweight?

I imagine he'd blame genetics, as most fat people do while tucking into a chocolate gateau.

i dont i just loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove the pies
You should visit N.Z - some bakeries have 80-100 different pies.
Lamb and mint is my favourite, certainly draw the line at Steak and cheese though.
How apt that a John Mcdermott thread should turn into a pie conversation, great win the otherday though.

I do like him, though. I couldn't help thinking he was alright when he was interviewed after the first Fury fight and he went "yeah, a rematch... I'll have a rematch!" in such a gruff, Essex traveller voice. It was a shame Fury beat him conclusively in the return because John really did win the first time out, didn't he? (And I'm not really a big Fury fan, another example of a fighter who looks in terrible shape) so I'm pleased for him to get a decent win under his belt.
He looks awful though. The Larry weigh in, where he had his boxers all at a funny angle; his massive belly; his skinny arms. I don't think athletes should look like that and if he somehow gets up past gatekeeper status I do think it's a bit of a shame. Because it shows how bad our domestic heavyweights are, if they can't beat someone who appears to have literally no muscle mass. But I'm glad he's earning money, and he sorts the wheat from the chaff I guess.
The armchair warriors should like him though, because that's a guy who looks MUCH worse than the average man flattening big mr universe types. i suppose he gives fatboys hope across the land!

418a Leytonstone High Road. The pies have a dark, crispy lid. They squirt gravy and grease into the liquor as you cut into them with the spoon.

Bah! Do you think anyone in London could make a better pie than anyone in Wigan?
As for 'Liquor' tasteless bilge - pour gravy on your pie and mash and be done with it!

I have had pie and mash - frozen like but it was the cockney pie and mash and kwik save were selling them in boxes for 50p.
I bought about 6 of them and you know - they filled a hole but the liquer was nothing to write home about - it looks better than it tastes. Try a Greehalghs or a waterfields pie/pasty and you'll never bother with a cockney pie again!

I am working all through now till June but if you fancy it - there is the express train from Beijing straight to Anyang - it is about 3 hours and around 25 quid return from Beijing - by bus it will be around 8-10 hours - I'll get you some beers and some Chinese muslim food in!
