DeGale probably got paid more for the fight at West Ham.... mad.
Thats what i was thinking? he was the main event at upton park and had always been a good ticket seller, paul appelby was gettin 70k for a british title fight in a sell out kings hall in ireland so u think top of bill at upton park wud have got him at least 100k.

Well the money for that event had to be split a lot of ways, there were about a dozen fights. Katsidis probably got the biggest share, the heavies were probably on decent money, Degale too.

In fact just read the purse bid was $515,000 for Mitchell-Katsidis, 80/20 in Katsidis' favour, £65k for Mitchell.

People are overestimating again what a fighter earns.$100,000+ to challenge at home for a title is very good money.A lot of world champions fight for a lot less all over the world. The overheads on that show will have been huge and i guess FW will have lost money. The plan for both would have been for Kev to win and then they could both cash in.Unfortunately,Kev couldnt keep his side of the bargain. Also, isnt the purse split better than 80-20?

Warren is looking to throw Mitchell to the lions here....

Coming off the Katsidis loss, no way should he be stepping straight back in with a fighter of the calibre of John Murray. But if thats whats expected then he should be getting a decent payday, since another loss could genuinely finish him.

Don't see why Mitchell can't have 2-3 undercard fights against decent but beatable opposition to earn himself some corn and to ease his way back, before looking at a major fight.

At the end of the day Fwank got Mitchell a home draw in front of a big crowd and Mitchell got blown out. It's obvious that his pay will be less for this fight.

You can say that he's being thrown to the wolves, but he has been babied for most of his career, so it's about time he stepped up. The Murray fight is a good one that would put him right back into play if he wins.

Must be really paltry, but then again he blew his big night and Warren was probably rightfully p****** off with that.

From a selfish point of view, I just wanna see the fight !
Well they reckon he got 60k for the katsidis fight and that reckon fw is offering about half of that for this fight
So £30,000; after management, trainers, camp fees, taxes he'd walk off with maybe £17,000. I always imagined that high level boxing was better paid.
Obviously every boxer is different, in Nigel Benn's book he said that the actual cash in his hand after everything was deducted including tax was usually a third of the purse. So by that Mitchell would see about 10k for a fight he would be underdog in. He obviously finds that risk : reward ratio unacceptable from being out so long. I suppose he's worried that his purses would drop again if he lost to Murray. Benn mentions in his book that was the tough part after losing to Eubank.

Mitchell is reaping what he sew

You can't turn up half fit for the BIGGEST fight of your life and expect to get a patt on the back from the gaffa.

I'd like to thank Kevin for winning me a fortune on the Katsidis fight though

All this 'he didn't prepare properly' stuff is not really relevant. Mitchell on his greatest ever night would get stopped by Katsidis.

Anyone know how much he got paid for that fight?

I think Mitchell doesn't fancy the Murray fight and after such a lay off and convincing defeat against the Oz, I can't really blame him. He should look to have a couple of warm up fights to ease him back into it.

Always a chance Mitchell tasted a bit of glamour and a good payday against Katsidis and has thus elevated his standing in his own mind.

It was Mitchell who was asking for the fight now, he just doesn't like the £££'s on offer.

If you lose your previous fight surely it has an impact on your pulling power for the next fight

It does, without question, especially if you get blasted out in your first foray into the top level. He no longer has the '0' and has shown he can't mix it with the top level fighters.

When (if?) Mitchell ever boxes at a high level I'm sure the remuneration will be far greater.

Exactly the pay at this level pushing for world titles is not going to be great. If he has aspirations for world titles he has to take this fight at some point or other and the money is never going to be amazing. If he wants to bank some money stay at British or Euro level and defend in front of a big London crowd regularly. Paul Smith certainly did alright defending his Brit belt in the Echo.

If he wants world title fights eliminator money is going to be so so but if he wins a world title and defends the title he will be looking at some major paydays

Looks a case of "in with the new, out with old". Mitchell's been very loyal to Warren, who will put Mitchell in the bin if he loses to Murray.

Has this got anything to do with the fact that he was crushed in his last fight?
In the same vein that Naz lost his invinicibility maybe Mitchell has, he must be pretty insecure after Kastidis?

He needs to get back in there for 2 reasons, to win and thus make sure his last fight poster was not his last :oo

It's clear it's about the money with Mitchell. I don't know what he expects after Kat smashed him up. He's lucky to get the chance, and if he believes he can win, then what's the problem? Mitchell would take the fight with a Katisidis-like purse, but he won't if it's reduced. To me, that don't sit right.

Did I also read right that Mitchell was the favourite over Murray. If so, then...

if this is right then he doesnt deserve to have more money than an undefeated champion like murray

Murray is happy to take this fight and he is the champion, to be the best you have to fight the best, the way back for Mitchel is to win this title and then challenge for a world title again somewhere down the line. Money at this level is not huge but it sounds like a huge fight in Mitchels eyes, which for us, we know it is. My advice to mitchel is yes haggle, but get training really hard now and be ready for another of the biggest fights of your life. Murray will bring it hard for the full 12 so make sure you can too. you have the ability, just make sure you bring it. if you lose there will be the British title and that will be your way back too.
