Thanks guys. The only caveat I'd add though is that I've been back in Dubai for two years now, so my circ estimates aren't based on the latest figures. The only one I'm definite about in terms of accuracy is Fighters Only, as I found that figure out when I was back at Christmas.

Some of the changes are excellent, and they now have a young (Dennen looks about 15  ) team of writers like Flexen, Christie alongside a good editor alongside the excellent Dan Herbert who compliment each other very well.

I like it.

In fact with BM as well our publications blow the likes of the Ring and KO out of the water.

Keep up the good work.

PS. Flexen could do with a haircut

I do agree that Claude, although on occasion he used to stand his ground, in general, used to backdown when a certain promoter used to throw his toys out of his pram.

I get the impression Tris will not bow so easily.

The Woodhall and Calzaghe piece is a bit bland, but that's do with maybe the questions or possibly that both guys are a little introverted.

Teddy Atlas and his 'calls' are always amusing to read, as he makes claims then, when they are wrong, he tells us the following week how he 'knew' within 5 secs why things were going to go the way they did.

PS Danny Flexen, whilst a good reporter and writer, just what was he thinking when he picked Mayweather Jnr to beat Hearns??? His argument was not a particularly convincing one, to be honest.
Someone had to argue that side of the debate and as the biggest Mayweather advocate in the office that thankless task fell to me. I had a much better argument but it was three times the length which would fit on half a page unfortunately. Honest guv, I swear.

And I'll happily take credit for Donaire, as it was indeed superb, although Tris wrote it, not me. See what you think of the Fury piece on Thursday.

One thing I never understood is why someone has to have done something to have an opinion. It's like sometimes you hear old football pros saying "you've never played the game, so you don't know" bla bla.

It's like saying you can't comment on politics as you've never been a politician...

Or whatever, you can't comment on someone's acting ability as you've never been an actor.

I find it's just usually a poor excuse from someone without a good argument.

Thankfully there isnt TOO much of that on here. Mainly the people who use the argument haven't actually done anything either. Crab Bucket and all that.

And just for the record 50 per cent of BN have had amateur contests

Was that Nick Bond I saw helping out at ringside at the Fitzroy show at Earlsfield on Saturday? If so, good man!!

Also saw a great peice by Tris Dixon, sparring Lenord Pierre. I thought Lenord might progress into something but never happened and he hasn't fought since Pavlik beat him in 2006.

Guess he retired.

Excellent Fury piece Danny, hats off.

Brave of you to keep his views on 'a womans place' in and stunning that the interview took place on the day his old man went down.

By the way, the terrified photo shows you've already had that soldier haircut.

Nick's a top man who has a vast knowledge of the amateur game. Only met him a couple of times but when we shared stories at the GB championhips in November, you can see just how much the vest game means to him.

Nice to see him giving back to the unpaid code.

Visually, the layout, the graphics, the photos and so on; it has really improved. It is still a must-buy for the serious fan.

But on the negative side, the writing has gone down awfully. Tris DIxon's writing is dreadful, cliche laden, uninspiring dross. I quite like the new approch in terms of 'guest columnist' and the pie chart...not everything works but it's good to try.

I Like the 60 second interview though some of the questions are bland.

But as a writer he is poor. I believe he 'boxed'. Not sure what kind of fights..and his opening editorial about how he 'toured' the US boxing gyms before realising he was a better writer than fighter was egotistical and risible. Like he was some kind of travelling warrior gloriously toiling in the US gyms. What nonsense. As he wrote If he thinks he was a better fighter than writer, he must have been a truly dreadful fighter as his writings is, at best pedestrian. I've seen him on a you tube video and he can barely hit the pads properly.

He come across quite well on TV but he sounds and acts almost exactly like claude used to - which is fine, claude came accross well... but it's very odd.
He should go to writing school - I'm serious. He needs to learn to put some decent prose together.

And what was that Flexen article about Mathew and Ricky Hatton about??? He spends half the article talking about himslef and his brother and imagining various possible scenarios....WTF is that about??? Ibuy BN to read about boxing not Flexen's family. Awful. Just make some intro about brotherly jealousy and move on.

So you've finally turned on me, after hating on Tris for an eternity. Hmm, if by half the article, you mean the opening two paragraphs of a four-page piece, then your definition is skewed to say the least. It made sense in the context of the piece in my opinion and several other readers liked it, but each to their own. As for Tris' boxing skills and experience, what does that have to do with his writing? You say he portrays himself as a 'travelling warrior' then proceed to quote him admitting he was a better writer than fighter – so is he humble or egotistical, make up your mind. No-one's perfect, maybe you're better in the ring than Tris (Nick would know) but are you a better writer than the man you label 'pedestrian' or than the guy who writes about his own family too much?

KO's been closed for a couple of years, as has Boxing Digest. As far as I know, The Ring is the only national boxing mag in the US now.

Agree completely, and I always retort that people have an opinion on films, music, art, politics, other sports, food, etc without having been involved in those industries. How long would a restaurant last if any customer complaints were met with "Have you ever ran a restaurant? Are you a trained chef? No? Well, you need to show more respect!"
