I still feel that the ref, Joe Cortez was overzealous in that fight.

*Each time Hatton got on the inside of Mayweather, Cortez would break it up.

*Each time Ricky caught up with Floyd, Cortez would break it up.

*Each timre Hatton had Mayweather in the corner,Cortez would break it up.

With the refs constant interference prohibting Hatton's gameplan, "The Hitman" stood no chance at all.

And it was a shame, because I belueve that Hatton had the tools to beat Mayweather. :TU:
I don't agree with that at all.
What basically happened in that fight was that Hatton wanted to do his cobra-clutch, walk-to-the-ropes-and-then-punch/constant top of the head in the face thing from the off and Mayweather wanted to stick his elbow in Hatton's face from the off. Every time they came together in the first couple of rounds they were BOTH fighting very dirtily, so Cortez broke them up. That set the pattern for the fight so he imo quite prudently kept them out of (fouling in the) clinches. Perhaps that suited Mayweather more than Hatton but...too bad. If Hatton could fight on the inside properly to start with, it wouldn't be an issue. Mayweather would have been pulled up for the elbows and that would obviously have suited Hatton.

Even if we go along with the nationalist version that Mayweather had the ref in his pocket and got away with god knows what then...well, so what? Bad Karma. What goes around comes around. Works both ways and it's absolutely absurd to give Hatton a pass for all the blatant favouritism he got from numerous referees in his fighting at the MEN period and then throw the toys out of the pram when the shoe is on the other foot for a change.

At the end of the day though it's all academic, Hatton couldn't have beaten Mayweather if there were eleven Mickey Vann's refereeing and the Man City board of directors judging. Mayweather was/is just in a different league. Regardless of how much of a pudendum he is.

You are entitled to your opinion sir, but I am afraid we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

Don't let Castillo hear you say that.

Mayweather is a better fighter than Hatton. But Riocky had the tools to beat him, like De La Hoya had and Pacquaio has.

Fair enough brother. To tell the truth I thought Hatton was going to give pretty twat Floyd a much better fight than he did.

Well, I don't know where he would rank with the jr. welterweight fighters of all-time. I don't think he would be top 10. He probably would be somewhere between the 12th and the 20th spot.

An all-time great? No way.
A good fighter? yes...That's it
