This is the first ever case of banning a young amateur for having a bad criminal record,we know for a fact that a gb number 1 was in bother for serious assult and the England reps gave him charactor references, another boxer is active now after serving a manslaughter charge,
The ABA encourage us to work with bad kids and get kids off the street but yet they want us to push him back to the life he had before,
since starting the sport caiden as kept out of trouble,he has a lovely baby boy to one of our female boxers and set up home with her and is in the gym 6 days a week,

we also work with community service and have people doing their hours at the gym, so what are the aba playing at,They have ruined a young mans life by stopping him reaching his goal :shame:
Thats the ABA for you mate. Bunch of arseholes now. Lets face it they let girls fight FFS

CRB checks are there to protect children from people who could potentially be a risk to them. If he's failed then he's failed. "He's a nice guy or he needs a second chance in life" don't get you pass I'm afraid. Harsh but there for a reason.

Our subbys have to have CRB checks annually as we do a lot of school projects. A couple of the lads have got colourful past lives but have never failed a CRB, so I'd just be mindful of that.

Its all about wether the coviction is spent.If he has been sentenced to 6 months or more it will take ten years for the rehabilitation period.If his troubles were when he was 14 and he is only 21 then thats your problem.He has no chance with an unspent conviction,same as he couldnt become a taxi driver for example.Its not the A.B.A's fault.

This is from the CRB website, on the homepage.

Radical shake-up of Criminal Record Regime and Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS)
11 February 2011

More than nine million people working or volunteering with children and vulnerable adults will no longer need to register and be monitored by the state following an overhaul of the checking regime.

The government today unveiled plans to scale back the VBS and Criminal Records Regime to common sense levels while ensuring vulnerable groups are appropriately protected.

The proposals, which come after a comprehensive review of the existing system, include:

* the merging of the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) to form a streamlined new body providing a proportionate barring and criminal records checking service;
* a large reduction of the number of positions requiring checks to just those working most closely and regularly with children and vulnerable adults;
* portability of criminal records checks between jobs to cut down on needless bureaucracy;
* an end to a requirement for those working or volunteering with vulnerable groups to register with the VBS and then be continuously monitored by the ISA; and
* stopping employers who knowingly request criminal records checks on individuals who are not entitled to them.

No senior boxer is crb checked, he is the 1st ever boxer to be banned but we say let's check all seniors if not let him back,he was 14 when he commited his offences and he got a conditional discharge

That really just doesnt add up though , i passed crb's to coach kids football despite having 2 gbh convictions from when i was a teen , amongst other things , in fact i wasnt going to say this but ive been done for attempted murder when i was 16 but it never stopped me passing crb , in my opinion i dont see why he failed it unless it was a sex , firearm or drug offence , which ifit was sex or drugs then i agree with him failing when its for coaching but dont see why he should be banned from fighting

I can not say his offences without his permission but they are not bad or we wouldn't be making an issue of this, but if he gives us permission I will put them on , but the ABA need to look at this situation coming up to the olympics,because if we get the crb check on all senior boxers i am almost certain team GB will be depleted of some of there boxers and it will effect senior boxing as a whole, but if you were us and you knew someone boxing who as done time for manslaughter, another kidknap and the reason they are boxers is that they have not been CRB checked,its only because caiden wanted to be a coach,and barry jones who is a copper anyway he not gunna accept caiden

It is difficult to give an opionion until you hear both sides of the story and how people on here can say it's a disgrace without even knowing the offences he was found guilty of is beyond me.
It also seems ridiculous to say that the ABA ruined his life, as it seems he did that to himself.

Boxing has been his escape route from the criminal life he knew,since boxing he has not commited 1 offence settled down with a lovely little boy,the people who have made this desision are the same people who encourage us to get kids off the street away from crime,work with young offenders then when we do they block him and show him the door back to his roots, the boxing board of control told me to turn him pro,but NO BOXER HAS EVER BEEN BANNED EVER, i could have commited any offence ever thought of and box amateur

Unfortunately you need to go through the appeals process if he wants to stay in am boxing.

We had exactly the same situation for the amateur club I run and the boxer in question had not committed any offences since he was 18 , now 27.

We were told he was banned from am boxing completely for fairly minor offences.

He was desperate to remain in boxing, was actually working with vulnerable adults (passed that CRB!!) and therefore paid his £250.

Appeal was a letter, didnt attend in person, won and then had his card reinstated!!!

I'm sure however it is a fair and clear process, with transparent guidelines and not a money making activity :wink: :wink:

A CRB check is to safeguard children around a certified adult.

Being a naughty boy whilst an active boxer would likely get your removed from the squad unless there were mitigating circumstances, provocation etc, but that is an entirely separate discussion from a CRB test.

A CRB is essentially checking out whether that person has a past of sexual or violent crime, particularly against minors - or any other illegal activity which could deem them a risk to childen's welfare under his tutelage.

If there is something on his record that has spooked them that bad, that they tell you he cannot even box - well that's intriguing.

Your only answer is to meet with them and discuss it openly to see if their is a resolution. But without going off topic, local amateur boxing authorities have been total pricks many a time and it's hardly surprising.

But also reading between the lines of other posters on this, it would seem they think perhaps this kid is not telling you the full story either Steelcity65. The reality could be a bit of both? especially if the lad is playing down the severity of his convictions through embarrassment or something.

Sorry to state the obious but working with kids ia whole different ball game ,but in terms of being aloud to fight under aba rules you must be having a laugh if having a crimanil record stops you fighting. i know for certain of loads of fighters with records in scotland and no issue has ever been made of it

caiden as been as honest and truthful about his crimes, the onlly time he went to prison was for burgalry and abh he did 18 months,so on his record he as only done prison once so its stupid, but the solicitor is on it and someone at the ABA will be liable for their decisions and it could cost them a good few quid and a big change to senior boxing, CAIDEN IS NOT WORKING WITH KIDS HE IS A BOXER WHO IS WORKING WITH 2 COACHES

Well going on that I agree with you.If he was working with kids or vulnerable adults and he had done more serious crimes ie sexually related,etc then i would agree with the ABA but in this instance its seems a little strict

But if u r gunna ban him from boxing then u have to go through every senior boxer and ban em all,u cant ban 1 and let other serious offenders boxand the aba should not encourage us to work with kids involved in crime or drugs or go in to schools and work with the bad kids,1 boxer boxed amateur with kidknap charges one still active with manslaughter a gb boxer with serious assult, so they shud either ban them or let our lad box they cant have 1 rule for 1 and another rule for others just cause they r gb,its pathetic,as caiden trains with our seniors and pros he is in the gym at different times to our junior and schoolboy boxers, what the aba have done is wrong,we will have to crb the security gaurds on the gate at our gym as kids walk past them,or crb every adult attending an amateur show,or even the 2 old cleaners who clean our gym or every parent that comes to gym,it could go on and on, no wonder kids wanna turn pro early

I'm no expert but just reading the thread it seems that this all came about because he applied to be a coach and that necessitated the crb check.

When that comes back the result is to ban him outright. Yes, that might be unfair but its not comparable to all seniors undergoing CRB checks because its linked to the coaching application isn't it?

However, it seems now that the idea of him coaching kids has been dropped so maybe the wise thing to do is to appeal the ban with regard to him fighting and accepting that he won't be doing any coaching right now.

You do paint a strong picture of unfairness, however as beagleboy points out you have contradicted yourself.

What's the real story?

I agree it sounds very harsh.

I know it's an extreme example but Tyson was able to fight again after his sex offence. I think coaching should be out of the question but fighting is another matter.

From my point of view, it would seem very strange to apply for a coachmg permit while knowing the applicant was a sex offender...

Steelcity, I guess you thought that there would be no issue with the CRB check?
