Ali v Cooper as a kid

1st real memory for me was Benn v Watson. Benn in his silver sparkly shorts getting rocked onto his back heels and dropped by a jab. Although he lost he was so exciting I became a huge Benn fan. Also vaguely remember Tyson v Berbick, so that would have been before that, but Benn v Watson a lot clearer.

Collins - Eubank I. I went with my dad and uncle, unbelievable atmosphere.

Ali - Frazier III

My dad kept telling me to shut up - I was so excited that I couldn't stop talking.

I remember Hagler/Minter but the first mega fight I recall was either McGuigan/Pedroza or Hagler/Hearns. I have a vague recollection of Hearns/Leonard I but these things are often lost on a kid under the age of 10. I have a vague recollection of Ali in one of his last fights, possibly Spinks II.

The first boxing event for me was the night of Tyson - Holyfield I. Collins - Benn II and Hamed were on the same night.

Really got into it.

really got me into it a year or so later against holyfield.

now i'd watch two camels with red gloves on if it was in a regulaition ring

My first remembered fight was Tyson v Douglas my bros a top top pro so will have been watching it cus of him ....... good old days eh

Ben V Eubank 1 for me. 10 years old, was at a 21st birthday that night and can remember as the fight was starting the room emptied and everyone sqaushed in the vault to watch the fight. Some bloke stood me on a table so I could see the fight. Been on love with the sport ever since.

Leon Spinks V Muhammad Ali.... was seven. Saw it on World of Sport on the Sunday after it happened I think, with my Mum and Dad.

REALLY remember?

Ali-Quarry I can really remember (70)

Before then (late 60's) I'd probably have seen a few fights on 'Sportsnight with Coleman' etc (when British titles were still a really big deal) but can't remember anything specific before Ali-Quarry.

Plus I was regularly dragged to the Liverpool stadium at a very young age with my brother, dad and granddad, but again, can't remember any specific fights.

(Alan Rudkin was a favourite of my dad, so if he was on, we'd have been there. Later we became big fans of Joey 'the jab' Singleton and of course John Conteh, but this is all after 1970)

The Ali-Quarry fight was SO big because of Ali's enforced lay-off and for me, though he was a big, big name, I hadn't really seen him fight (he was still 'The People's Champ').

Although Quarry was a more than decent fighter, it seemed merely a 'warm up' for a fight with Frazier and that's basically how it turned out.

The Ali Frazier (1) fight by the way, as a world sporting event - NOTHING before or since has even come close.

Tyson v Spinks.

I was merely a small kid at the time but I recall the hype surrounding it and the build up.

Honeyghan v Curry and Bruno v Witherspoon, I was around 8 years old at the time and remember watching highlights of Lloyd's win with my dad. Sure we listened to Bruno on the radio, vaguely recall that.

My grandad used to talk to me about Ali when I was younger too, I was about 5/6 when my love of the sport began.
