To be fair I did say that in my post, however, this is the busiest week and month for Irish boxing in living memory and we couldnt command a front page.

It's not a charity, they put on what they think will sell the mag, and evidently not enough Irish people buy it.

Spreading anti-English feelings, that's the way to make Ricky into a bigger star across the country!

I think a defence against an English fighte would sell more tickets than against the likes of Layera!

Yeah, true.

Ireland's always a slightly different case as it's the whole RTE thing and Dunne for example, I don't think he was shown on UK TV once. There is definitely always an English bias but as someone said the other day about Burns "I couldn't understand a word he said", despite me not thinking his accent is that thick. I think that geographic location does play a part too, there is an inherant laziness to a lot of London-centric things (not just boxing).

That said, a boxer will nearly always appeal to a core demographic...and the population of Scotland is pretty small compared to the UK overall, or even England.

burns would beat any english fighter in his weight division.
If an english fighter was holding the title he wouldnt mess around fighting fellow "brits" so why should burns?
Hes above domestic level now. Fair enough i can agree that his last two fights haven been against oppenents who are far from world class but thats boxing. Hes had enough years of undercard fights so deserves an opportunity to make good money and whilst doing so he is calling out bigger names so he cant be accused of ducking anyone.
Id be the first to agree that the last2 fights have been a rip off, 40 quid and then 50 quid to watch mis-matches just because its "world champnship boxing". Rip off yes

Still, billy i wouldnt accuse Skyof being anti scottish as they have had burns on ringside etc and mention him on a regular basis but i can see your point that if it was Khan, Haye or Froch there defo would have been more focus. Just use Hayes shambolic even against Harrison? That got shows dedicated to it and that was a bigger joke than Burns v Lareya!!

Although i wouldnt class Sky as being anti scottish i now recognise a few names on here that are.

Sky are trying to sell PPV. Haye and Khan are major stars, Burns is not. In a business sense, it's wise to have Haye and Khan banded about like they are.

So he's above fighting domestic level opposition, but his last two opponents are 'far from world class'? Bit of a contradiction? Not that I'm saying he should go back to fighting domestic opposition but you can excuse the lack of interest in defenses against Evensen and Laryea.

Haye vs Harrison made them XX Millions, Burns vs Lareya made them how much?

I think it's disgusting that Ringside and Sky don't have any commentators/pundits from Birmingham. I can't abide Ringsides anti-Birmingham stance, why are we continually oppressed by these southerners??

I hate the fact that Hadrian's wall is in such disrepair when then Chinese can keep their great wall in such pristine condition. Can't the national lottery fund it where they can rebuild it and make it 10 foot higher - with a few machine gun turrets built every 10 yards.

Chicken and egg my friend!

Also are you saying that English/Scottish/Welsh readers are not interested in Irish fighters?

They will be most interested in boxers in their country, and a magazine will focus on those they feel their readership is interested in. It's not a magazine's job to promote boxers. If Burns won an Olympic medal and was consistently in exciting and high quality fights, him being Scottish would be secondary.

I think you are missing my point.

I never said that it was the "magazine's job to promote boxers". That begs the question, what is the point of the magazine? From a business perspective its purely down to sales and advertising. From a boxing perspective it is to report and preview on the most pertainant boxing events on the scene.

I dont know what the sales are in the various countries and regions. But what I do know is that if you ignore a sector of the market they wont buy the magazine, and if you fill your magazine with writers from a certain area then who "will be most interested in boxers in their country" then people outside that wont buy the magazine.

Is that good for the magazine, is that good for the boxing public in the UK and Ireland, will that be good for sales?

Buy the way, Boxing News and SKY Boxing do a great job in my opinion.

The fight deserved more of a mention than it received. I'm sure they will take a greater interest if the Fana fight comes off. I don't think Ringside are anti-Scottish. Billy is right.......'mon the Jocks!!!!! :bag: :bag:

Yeah, to be honest, it annoyed me on Ringside when they would show previews then repeat them in the build up on Saturday Fight Night. I'd rather see new stuff than recaps.
