Unsurprising, really. Long time out and the two rounds he had were against Mark Lewis in Barnsley which didn't even shed any rust. This is the type of match I like to see on Sky shows though...not big names necessarily but 50/50.TheCobra wrote:Dawson stopped, could see that coming he looked knackered. Yeah, this is exactly the sort of fight Sky needs to show. Live action, before the Main Event, and well matched.

Askin says in the interview that the fight was harder than he thought it was going to be, that shows what it means to have good learning fights like tonight.
Makes Askin realise that you can't underrate anyone in the pro's. He learnt so much more than going in with some import that folds in a couple of rounds.

Askin comes across as quite likeable. Going off Hatton's comments, he might even defend the Area title!
Re: Dawson 9 wins V Askin 9 Wins Round by round
Was impressed by Askin showed he could change within a fight and has great power think this kid could go far
Re: Dawson 9 wins V Askin 9 Wins Round by round
Matty Askin v Tony Conquest would be a good fight. Conquest's promoter is trying to get him on telly too.

Just wondering how Vassell is managing his nerves tonight, he has said in interviews that he suffers with them.
Re: Dawson 9 wins V Askin 9 Wins Round by round
Time to get the beers out of the freezer - tonight, matthew, I'll be Peroni.

Good choice. Matthew, I have already been Guinness, Sagres and a bottle of claret.Dan Dares wrote:Time to get the beers out of the freezer - tonight, matthew, I'll be Peroni.

I haven't had Sagres since a portu-geezer friend of the missus brought me some round three years ago. It didn't last long.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Good choice. I've got the boy Tyson just ahead - I like his style - a step up for Vassell.

Proper nice kid matty, did his corner with andy sumner for his first ever fight
Re: Dawson 9 wins V Askin 9 Wins Round by round
whos next for Askin Hatton suggested that he will stay at this level for a few fights, but he will get learnning fights not static opponents. Id go Jon Ibbotson won't just sit back and has only been stopped once so Askin will have to work him out

How is Tony Conquests' promoter trying to get him on telly?Dan Dares wrote:Matty Askin v Tony Conquest would be a good fight. Conquest's promoter is trying to get him on telly too.

Well surely any promoter will try or at least welcome getting their fighter TV exposure. By promoting the fighter they one of the goals is to get their fighter on tv is it not?metchampion wrote:How is Tony Conquests' promoter trying to get him on telly?Dan Dares wrote:Matty Askin v Tony Conquest would be a good fight. Yes, I expect any promoter would welcome TV exposure for their promotions (and the resulting remuneration). I just assumed that someone had some inside information on Conquests' career, when they said, "Conquest's promoter is trying to get him on telly".rickshere wrote:Well surely any promoter will try or at least welcome getting their fighter TV exposure. Re: Dawson 9 wins V Askin 9 Wins Round by round
any footage of this fight ?
Re: Dawson 9 wins V Askin 9 Wins Round by round
it was a good bout & i felt dawson was coming out of the exchanges better & busting up askins with the stiff jab, it looked like askins might fall apart but he seemed to warm in to it bulling fwd with pot shots getting some success & once dawson slowed askins stepped it up & goodnight vienna.
Re: Dawson 9 wins V Askin 9 Wins Round by round
Your assumption that I have 'inside information' on Conquest's career is unfortunately wrong, but I did have a 'conversation' with his 'promoter' at Conquest's last fight, who said, and I quote: "I am trying to get him on telly". As to 'how' I can't help you, but I would imagine negotiating a fight with the likes of Askin might help get him on telly, don't you think?metchampion wrote:Yes, I expect any promoter would welcome TV exposure for their promotions (and the resulting remuneration). Re: Dawson 9 wins V Askin 9 Wins Round by round
It might help, yes, but there are a couple of things I'd like to mention.
First of all, in general terms, unless a promoter owns a form of media, it is nigh impossible for him / her to gaurantee a boxers exposure by that particular medium. A good example would be that Ricky Hatton, as the owner of both Hatton tv and
Hatton promotions, can gaurantee a boxers exposure on that tv channel.
Promoters who do not own a tv company, by definition, can't make such promises. If a TV company has agreed to film a promoters show, then that promoter can (and they often do) gaurantee a boxer a place on that bill. That does not mean their contest will be broadcast or even filmed. The tv company are generally the paymasters and make the decisions regarding who they film and broadcast. (I know this, as inthe past some of my boxers have been disappointed to learn that the cameras were being packed away whilst they boxed)
On a specific note, in relation to Tony Conquest, nobody is 'his promoter'. He has boxed for two different promoters and is not contractually obliged to any particular promoter.

Re: Dawson 9 wins V Askin 9 Wins Round by round
Your stating the blindingly obvious here, and its got bugger all to do with my post. No-one said anything about 'promises' - I hate it when people use that word wrongly. What his promoter (who I understand has promoted his last three fights at least) said is that he was 'trying' to get Conquest on telly. At the time I asked him, he was Conquest's promoter as he was promoting the bill that Conquest was boxing on. Has he appeared on anyone else's lately? Yours? Or are you trying to sign him?metchampion wrote:It might help, yes, but there are a couple of things I'd like to mention.
