A good example of a new trainer tweaking the style of a brawler and prolonging his career would be what Buddy McGirt did with Arturo Gatti.
Nice example Olly.

i love katsidis, he's my favorite active aussie fighter, and im sure evrybody else here thinks likewise.
but, its time mick, the fans and most of all his managment stop overmatching him. he's taken more punishment in his past two fights than most guys take in 10. it shpould be clear now that mick is a class below the top guys. its time he was matched better, he is not going to beat the marquez's, guerreo's amd soto's of the world. the sooner people stop matching him on a punchers chance the better. he needs to fight guys in his own level, there is no shame in that. but i have a feeling golden boy will continue to throw him in to these fights and he will continue to take savage beatings. and im sure mick, with his huge heart will continue to take the fights. im serious when i say if he takes another beating like that he could do some real damage, the last thing boxing needs is another fatality.
I'm not sure Katsidis need retire but I agree 100% he needs to be matched more considerately from here on. It's easy to say with hindsight that Guerrero was a bad match, but even in defeat Katsidis did really well against other smart boxers in Casamayor and Marquez. But now it seems clear he won't get the win at A-level unless the opposition is carefully picked.

Give him 6 months off now and then regroup with 2-3 confidence building wins and if he looks like he can get back in the title mix, then have it be against someone less accurate and/or easier to hit back, even if it's a bigger puncher.

Oli, bang on the wonga. Kat, if he carries on, needs to be matched carefully. Otherwise he could end up getting banged out by someone like Murray. And he's better than that.

Also, Kat needed to part with Smith ALONG time ago.

yeah, guys like earl, amonsot and chavez are the guys he should be fighting. If he can string together 5-6 wins together then maybe he should be considered for a title shot again. But right now he needs to stay away from the elite guys

I think Katsidis needs to retire. He has tried his best to beat the best, in his prime and fell short (in impressive style knocking down Marquez)

If he does continues fighting, he should join the Mundine and Green bandwagon and fight top 30 guys while holding some bogus title, and reap in the rewards from the Aussie fight fans.

Boxing is a dangerous sport, and I reckon most boxers become damaged goods from fighting when they are over 30, and already taken a beating inside the ring. From now on, every tough fight for Katsidis puts him at higher risk.

Not the way you wrote it, and it still means he would be going backwards.

I think it was clear, but whatever. As for "going backwards", he hasn't got much forward momentum post-Guerrero, has he? Sometimes a boxer has to take a step back for the long-term good. Another fight at this level right now isn't likely to do him any favours.

He needs a good cut man. He has a bit of an 'Enery Cooper problem around the eyes.

not much good having a good cut-man if he stays with the same trainer.
