Froch - I didn't knock Groves out

Gomez, given you seem to know Froch, do you know if he ever reads this forum or whether he has ever posted here?

Occaisionally he will have a gander, but forums just aren't really his thing. He normally has a run, eats breakfast, hits the bags and then goes about doing odd jobs on his rental properties around Nottingham to stay busy. A few times he's had a tennant in who is a bit of a fan, then before you know it he is grouting their bathroom.

I set his twitter up and showed him how to go on with it, he's got the hang of that and has a bash once or twice a week on it. But for the most part is happy being pretty anonymous, rather than chasing every last fan. Possibly to his detriment but he's not overly fussed.

It was watching Froch against Pascal that got me back into (watching) boxing again after a long period of disinterest. He is quality. He might not be a household name, but people that know boxing in all four corners of the globe know how good he is, which i presume is more important to him. He may well have lost a very close 'fight of the year' against Kessler, but when you look at the state of Kessler's face afterwards, and the fact that the fight retired Kessler from the Super Six, it sort of looks more like a win for Froch really, especially considering it was in Kessler's back yard.

I had three friends over to watch the Kessler fight, who don't normally watch boxing. They were jumping up and down from round six onwards with excitement. All three bought the Abraham PPV because of that fight, and two now subscribe to Sky. Two of them are talking about going to Atlantic City on June 4th (I can't).

Sky should be rolling out the red carpet for Froch. When he gets past Johnson, I'll be hocking the mother in laws wedding ring to see him in action against Ward.

I agree. I remember going to the Khan-Fagan fight and coming out afterwards and watching Froch-Pascal in one of the hotels down the road from the Excel. There were people in there who knew nothing about the fight. We had to get the staff in the bar to turn it on and within three rounds the whole place was mesmerised. Same when I was on a stag in Manchester, we were in a Premier Inn and I bought the Primetime feed to watch on my laptop in the bar while we were having a few drinks. Again, after only a couple of rounds I had a group of random people gathered around watching it. If only that fight too had been promoted properly and screened on regular TV, or even Sky - it would have been the same situation in pubs all around the country. Froch should be a much bigger name.

Carl poleaxed a known sparring partner once which i caught on camera and he made me delete it. He believes sparring is for behind closed doors only and hasn't ever bragged about it.

Gomez, was it Darren Sutherland and if not, were you there for any of his sparring with Froch?

Not been funny; but Froch comes across as the man who wouldn't brag about such a thing; when he was up and coming and learning I imagine he got his arse handed to him a few times.

And be fair to Groves he is willing to take these knocks at this stage in order to better himself. I'm sure DeGale is doing the same and having tough sparring too. Can't wait for the fight. Despite the shite PR job they are both doing (I seriosuly had to watch that ringside interview between the 2 of them through my hands) I can't wait for the fight. It's the kind of domestic fight that needs no build up. Also I think both guys attitudes to the sport are top notch, clearly both train like demons.
