In an institution that counts Ingemar Johansson & many others of somewhat questionable credentials among it's ranks, Eddie belongs. He was an integral part of one of the very best eras at 175 pounds even though he didn't hold onto his belt for a long period of time.
Eddie was a magnificent boxer/counter puncher with the ability to end the fight with a single shot from either hand. Even though he often chose to do just enough to win rather than going all out for his victories.
Had he had a bit more of an aggressive manner & killer instinct, he could have perhaps been the best of the era.
If it was only Ingemar Johannson that undeservingly got in ahead of Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, I would say that Mustafa does not belong.

However, as you have alluded to, there have been many others elected that were not as good. Since he had become eligible, there have been dozens of fighters that are not nearly as deserving that have been picked instead of him. Year after year someone not better than him seems to get in. There have also been dozens that were roughly even who have elected. He should have been elected several years ago.

I'm glad I started this thread. Interesting and intelligent posts all around.

Eddie was a "better fighter" than Saad and Galindez, but he wasn't as accomplished as either one of them. For a man with his skills he wasn't a champion for very long during a period when there were many opportunities to fight lesser opponents for good pay on free t.v.
