As gobbles said, Khan is more popular than not, groups of people will have their own reasons for disliking him whether it be racial, religious aspect etc. but the biggest and most common reason IMO is just pure jealousy, it is a well known fact that some people in this country can not handle somebody being rich, famous and successful, we've seen it on this very forum amongst others with Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe, Lennox Lewis was in the same boat until he retired, we've seen it in other sports(see Lewis Hamilton and countless footballers) also.
You see this jealousy from all communities yet the critics all have the same thing in common - all useless ne'er-do-wells who never once attempted to follow their dreams be it lack of dedication, balls or unwilling to make certain sacrifices in order to achieve their dreams.

it seems to me for a lot of people, calling Khan 'arrogant' is equivalent to those in the South of America calling black people 'uppity n------s'.
i think some people want to see Asians being humble and subservient, and anything less than some kind of hand-wringing supplicant gets the label 'arrogant'.

It could be that or maybe, just maybe.....they are actually a bunch of c@*&S - it seems to me that pretty much every they have ever done business with, on any level, top to bottom, amateur to pro, has ended up falling out with them over money.
Falling out with people over money is not unusual in boxing, it happens all the time, but falling out with everyone you do business with is unusual.
I look at it this way - the goose that lays the golden egg has landed on their lap, they have little or no experience in tending to such a prize and have no other geese to look after so these try and yield as much as from there golden one as possible.
If it was another promoter or manager they would know that they have to deal with these people again with other fighters but the Khans don't, slap, bang and wallop and they will never back again - unless you consider that that little oik Haroon is up to much.
I am sure they see it as doing the best they can but you can understand why others might see that approach money grabbing or short-sighted.

Well i think the general public do like him, infact i'm quite surprised how popular he is amongst the 18-24 aged crowd i come across especially young women. As for his 'attitude' i'm not sure i get what you mean, he dosen't come across as a nasty person, maybe a bit arrogant and not too bright but a lot of 18-24 year olds come across like that nowadays.
That's it, let's be honest though, how many of our top boxers aren't arrogant? With some of them it just rubs people up the wrong way, but they're all at least fairly arrogant.
Very true, Haye is surely the dictionary definition of arrogant - humble Carl Froch has declared that he has his next two fights mapped out (confident isn't he) and prime years Joe Calzaghe as he was holding up his WBO belt, was declaring what right has Jim Watt got to be so critical, what has Jim ever done to judge him so negatively.
Even the boy next door, Jack the lad Hatton has got pulled up for talking in the 3rd person, as did Lewis.
Its part of the sport, you have to be confident - its such a tough game - and I certainly agree that I don't think Amir is the sharpest knife in the draw and I think can get goaded to making some PR mistakes (his twittering being the worst of these).
Stu, Haye has a lot of detractors too. Many people would love to see him ko'd against the Klitschkos because of his arrogance (i'm not one) and i thought Froch did have his next two fights sealed anyway win or lose. Semi then final/3rd/4th place fight?

But telling Khan: “If you’re a man, you’ll give Paul a rematch”, as one newspaper reported, was just pathetic.
Do you mean the paper reported that this quote was pathetic, or did you just quote the paper and you think its pathetic.
I'm only asking, cause when Hearn/s were goading DLH to say "yes, he deserves a rematch" - it seemed to be met with universal approval from the press.
My opinion is that getting in the face of Khan and spitting out: "If you're a man you'll give him a rematch"....as the paper said he did, is pathetic.
The guy has proved he's a great fighter and "a man".......that comment was immature and was purely to goad him. Belongs in the playground, though I can understand they were obviously frustrated.

I thought for a second that a paper had called it pathetic and I was thinking it would be very hypocritical based on their responses at the Press conference - at least they wrote what they were cheering about (even if you are completely correct in calling it pathetic).

Thanks Stu, CP and KG, and all othe others who've given some response, appreciate and respect your opinions so nice to hear it was a half-decent read. Knocked it out in about half hour as it's been bugging me all week, and I got on a bit of a roll!
Thanks again

No probs. They need an influx of fresh genes once in a while and Amir fits the bill perfectly. We need to start a virtual campaign, Twitter drive, online petition and whatnot. Get Amir into a position where he's a real 'King'. It Khan be done.
Didnt Diana do enough to bring in some fresh blood and mix up the gene pool!?
God that girl was a hard worker.

My bad. They're not due a hit for a hundred years as they've had Diana and the Big Yin in to mix things up in recent times.
Any word on where McCloskey goes next, Leonard? Any whispers? Tawk ta me.
They were trying to talk up fight with Judah, but can't see that happening. More likely to go for some "high profile" European title fight. Who's the Portuguese light-welterweight champion?

Jose Maureen Dough.
Judah seems a no-go even to the most optimistic amongst us. Wonder if there were real feelers or if it is just one of those name splices that pop up once in a while.
Hope he doesn't wait for the winner of the EBU as he could end up covering old ground.
Now would be the time to strike in my opinion.
"If Eddie Hearn was a man, he'd put his hand in his pocket and get him a high profile fight in Belfast as soon as his cut heals"

The bulls**t thrown Khan's way was just that really. He did what he had to do to win against a tricky opponant. The Sky debacle wasn't his fault either, that's on his business team.
However, I can also understand why McCloskey wants a rematch. He lost every round, but the ref and doctor completely screwed him. In an ideal world they would get it on again in the next month or two and put the subject to bed completely. The fact that it seems to take 6 months to make a fight these days means that a rematch won't happen. That will put Khan to far backwards on the path he wants to go on.
It's a real shame for McCloskey. He's lost his unbeaten record because some geek was either incompetant or just panicked. None of this is Khan's fault though.

OK. Fair point. But eff the pair of yous.
I'm doing a Hagler2002, I'm offski and am taking my ball (a metaphor for my boxing knowledge) away with me.
heh, i just think Kotelnik wouldn't be nearly so befuddled by Paul's stylistic awkwardness as Khan was.
on account of his having a boxing brain as opposed to the tiny liquid-filled nubbin above Khan's neck, that passes for a higher cortex function in Khan.

Yeah, I agree Ajose v McCloskey would be an absolute stinker. An ideal plan for McCloskey would be to fight Kotelnik (a fight I think he wins) and then Zab Judah in New York on St Paddy's weekend.

I think Kotelnik v Mc in Ireland would do decent business and he can win it; not a fight that would trouble the 'fight of the year' judges I'm sure, but a decent, scrappy chess match between two boxers paddling around in the tier between European and world class.

Agreed kotelnik is leagues above mckloskey and a very underated fighter.
