He was very good but you cant just say he would beat the likes of Alvarez and Berto with any sort of certainty. He would be a big underdog in both cases. As someone said, sparring is a different ball game.Again,he is a friend of yours and you obviously look up to him so i will leave it there and agree he was a very good fighter.kamicazze wrote:I know Khaliq personally and have seen him toy with people in sparring. Good people too. He still does it to some active boxers. It's well noted in the local area that him and froch had a great spar. Gave froch all sorts of problems until the cobra landed an uppercut. He retired from the sport due to them not adVancing his career or getting fights. With some of the guys he fought it's worth looking at who they fought prior and then they don't seem so bad

kamicazze wrote:Again khaliq was promoted by tommy gilmour who is well renowned for not getting his fighters the oppurtunities they deserve. Matchroom are innocent on that side. However in the past they havent been the best advocates for boxing however it looks as if they may be about to put in a real effort. I hope so although they seem to be trying to sign established boxers rather than build new ones. Sounds a bit golden boyish. At least hattons are building
your right gilmour always had some sort of say in my fights and was always ring side when i fought mr hearn was busy i know thatgobbles wrote:kamicazze wrote:Again khaliq was promoted by tommy gilmour who is well renowned for not getting his fighters the oppurtunities they deserve. Gilmour is Matchroom's promotional partner. All Gilmour's fighters fight on Mathroom bills.
kamicazze wrote:I didnt know matchroom and Gilmour were in cohesion. I do admit that there were so many titles at one point such as wbu, ibo, iba, wbf and so on that it kind of took the spin of it. The IBO have become more recognized since. Nowadays its international titles that are used rather than these. Nonetheless i do think James Hare, Jawaid Khaliq, and some others were quality fighters. Certainly above european level but on the fringes of world class. Jawaid himself has admitted that he would not have beat Fforest, Mosley, Antonio margarito and Zab Judah. But WBC champ at the time Jose rivera, cory Spinks, Joshua Clottey and daniel santos were the sort of guys he could have raised himself to beat. He was meant to fight WBU cham James Hare, Vernon Fforest, and WBF champ Chad Bennet at different times but never came to fruition so he was a tad bit unlucky. He also won ABA title which impresses me. Nowadays i think he would easily beat the likes of Mathew Hatton. Maybe it seems im a bit biased but this was my opinon before i knew the guy. As a boxer you can see a lot of little things he does that make the difference. Id love to hear Michael Hunters take on it or any other amateur or pro boxer for that matter.
The Pro Box series was run here in the States during the early 90's. Always wondered why Sky didn't branch out that way.stujones wrote:huge clout worldwide? I think Barry has done fantastically well and I credit anyone who works as hard as him - but I aint convinced Matchroom is a global worldwide brand - I know they are branching out with the darts and its massive over here, but I cannot imagine the likes of Dennis Preistely being mobbed in China or America.

I mean more in terms of the fact their sports are televised everywhere. The Pool, Snooker, Darts, poker, tenpin etc. are all packaged together in one hour programmes and shown around the world.stujones wrote:huge clout worldwide?
